10-Minute MOBA-Like Battles Await in New RTS Battle Aces

10-minute Moba-like Battles Await in New Rts Battle Aces

We are big fans of the real-time strategy genre, so even with Stormgate getting plenty of attention during Summer Game Fest, it didn’t escape our attention that there was another exciting project in the works over at Uncapped Games. On the PC Gaming Show, the studio was on hand to show off Battle Aces, a “new action RTS game that aims to redefine the genre with a fast-paced experience that’s truly easy to learn and difficult to master, bringing exhilarating strategic gameplay to every kind of player.”

“The promise of RTS has always centred on building and commanding a massive army and controlling how it moves and fights across the map as you match strategic wits against an opponent. In Battle Aces, our aim is for players of all skill levels and experience with RTS to experience that promise in every match,” said David Kim, senior game director of Uncapped Games.

“In fact, what we’ve seen in our testing so far is that players new to RTS or less familiar with the genre have been able to learn Battle Aces and grow in skill more quickly than any RTS our team has ever worked on before.”

Battle Aces depicts the future of warfare in the 26th century as humanity experiences strife amongst the planets in a desperate struggle for limited space and resources. High-tech drones controlled by mercenary commanders, or Battle Aces, fight explosive, large-scale battles on the front lines.

Players will be able to choose their own army composition and play style using the Unit Decks, taking their pick from over 50 units at launch, leaving room for all sorts of in-game matchups, strategies, and tactical manoeuvres. Design innovations such as automated resource gathering, instant unit-spawning, and preset expansions keep players focused on the fun of controlling and manoeuvring massive armies in battle, even as they manage the moment-to-moment strategic decision-making of when to expand to new bases and when tech for more powerful units.

User interface innovations allow players to quickly swap between unit production and army control on the fly without the need to look at home base or manage production facilities. The combination of design and UI elements makes it easier than ever to build and reinforce armies and keep attention on managing the intense battles that are concentrated in each of Battle Aces’ 1v1 or 2v2 matches.

Each match will last only 10 minutes, keeping the action constant as players explore new Unit Decks and enjoy the fight. This should be something both RTS and MOBA players can look out for, with the closed beta starting later this month.
