Cyberpunk 2: Keanu Reeves Hints at Johnny Silverhand Return

Keanu Reeves expresses strong interest in reprising his role as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2, despite the character’s storyline seemingly reaching its conclusion in Cyberpunk 2077.

From Rocky Launch to Redemption

CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 was on the brink of being labelled one of gaming’s biggest disasters after its bug-filled 2020 release. Yet consistent updates and the success of the Edgerunners anime helped the game redeem itself. Now, with a sequel in development, excitement is building once again.

Keanu Reeves’ performance as Johnny Silverhand was one of the original game’s undisputed highlights. His rebellious rockstar-turned-revolutionary added depth and charisma, becoming the emotional anchor for the player’s journey through Night City.

Keanu Reeves Wants Back In

In an interview with IGN while promoting his film Good Fortune, Reeves expressed his eagerness to reprise the role:

“Absolutely. I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again.”

While Reeves’ attachment to the character is clear, whether Johnny Silverhand will return in a Cyberpunk sequel remains uncertain. His storyline largely concluded in the first game, and CD Projekt Red has not revealed how closely the sequel will connect to its predecessor.

Cyberpunk 2 Development

Currently codenamed Project Orion, Cyberpunk 2 is being developed at CD Projekt Red’s newly established Boston studio. Unlike its predecessor, the sequel will use Unreal Engine 5, promising better performance and scalability.

Players shouldn’t expect it soon, though. According to the studio’s roadmap, Cyberpunk 2 will only release after The Witcher 4, with a tentative launch window set for late 2030.

For fans of both the franchise and Keanu Reeves, the idea of Johnny Silverhand’s return is tantalising. While nothing is confirmed, Reeves’ enthusiasm ensures speculation will run hot for years to come. Until then, Cyberpunk 2 remains one of gaming’s most anticipated future projects.
