Sony Expands CFexpress Type A Memory Card Range with New 480GB and 240GB Models

Sony Expands CFexpress Type A Lineup with New Mid-Capacity Cards

Sony is expanding its range of CFexpress Type A memory cards with the introduction of 480GB (CEA-G480T) and 240GB (CEA-G240T) models. These new capacities complement the existing 960GB and 1920GB cards, giving users more choice across different budgets and workloads.

High Speeds for Professionals

Both new models achieve read speeds exceeding 1,800 MB/s and write speeds of 1,700 MB/s, making them well-suited for fast-paced professional environments. Sony highlights compatibility with a wide range of its Cinema Line and Alpha cameras, including the ILCE-7M4, ILCE-7SM3, ILCE-7RM5, ILCE-1 series, ILCE-9M3, FX6, FX3, FX30, FX2, FR7 and PXW-Z200.

For filmmakers, the performance ensures smoother 4K and 8K video capture without dropped frames. For photographers, it means faster burst shooting and reduced waiting times when transferring large RAW files.

With the introduction of mid-range 240GB and 480GB options, Sony is addressing a common request from creators who need more storage than 160GB but do not require the expense of 960GB or 1920GB cards. These new models offer a practical middle ground, balancing cost, capacity and speed.

Availability in Singapore

The new CFexpress Type A cards will be available in Singapore from October 2025. They will be sold through Sony Stores, selected authorised dealers, and the Sony Store online. Pricing is expected to be revealed closer to release.

Strengthening the Ecosystem

By offering multiple tiers, Sony is reinforcing its CFexpress Type A ecosystem as a long-term solution for professionals. While CFexpress Type B cards remain dominant in certain camera systems, Sony continues to champion the more compact Type A format, which is particularly well suited to smaller mirrorless bodies without compromising on speed.

The expanded lineup means creators can now tailor their media choices to specific projects, from short shoots to feature-length productions, with the assurance of high reliability and performance.
