Saros Release Date Confirmed for March 20, 2026 on PS5
A Bold New Chapter for Housemarque
Housemarque, the studio behind Returnal, has officially announced that Saros will launch worldwide on March 20, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5 and enhanced for PS5 Pro at the latest State of Play presentation.
The news was accompanied by an extended gameplay showcase, captured at 60FPS in Unreal Engine 5, offering fans their first in-depth look at the ambitious third-person sci-fi action game.
The Shifting World of Carcosa
Saros takes place on Carcosa, a hostile alien planet that changes with each death. The gameplay demo follows protagonist Arjun Devraj (played by Rahul Kohli) as he explores an ancient civilization during a looming eclipse.
Along the way, he encounters Nitya Chandran (Shunori Ramanthan), one of several NPCs in an ensemble cast. Each biome on Carcosa promises unique challenges, shifting environments, and surreal storytelling sequences that unravel the mysteries of this alien world.
Expanding the Action Formula
The trailer highlighted how Saros builds on Returnal’s acclaimed third-person action with new depth and variety. Players will select loadouts from both Soltari human weaponry and Carcosan alien tech at the start of each run.
Arjun’s advanced Soltari combat suit allows for dashes, melee strikes, and acrobatic jumps, while the new Phosphorous Shotgun and bullet-hell enemies showcase the game’s spectacular firepower.
Key abilities include the Soltari Shield, which absorbs incoming projectiles before unleashing devastating counterattacks, and the Carcosan Power Weapon, a corruption-fuelled arm transformation that discharges explosive energy. Permanent progression systems, such as upgrading the combat suit and unlocking the Second Chance resurrection ability, ensure players grow stronger with every run.

Storytelling and Atmosphere
Housemarque emphasised that Saros will deliver a richer narrative experience than their past titles. Cinematics, grounded voice-overs, collectible holograms, and haunting audio logs expand the lore, while surreal dreamlike sequences will deepen the game’s mystery.
Carcosa’s blend of science fiction and cosmic horror is complemented by a dark-electronic score from two-time Grammy winner Sam Slater, whose previous credits include Chernobyl and Joker.
Housemarque is working closely with Nixxes on key gameplay and art elements, while PlayStation Studios Creative Arts is contributing sound and music. This collaboration, which mirrors the award-winning teamwork behind Returnal, aims to set Saros apart as one of the most technically and artistically ambitious PS5 exclusives to date.

With its official release date set, Saros is shaping up as one of Sony’s major first-party exclusives of 2026. Expect further deep dives into its story, ensemble cast, and Carcosa’s perilous environments as the launch approaches.
