A Brazilian Studio Levels Up

Hermit Crab Studio, a Brazilian indie developer known for its collaborations with global sports brands, has announced its most ambitious project yet — Sportia, a fast-paced, multi-sport arcade game being developed for PC and consoles in partnership with Ubisoft.

For Hermit Crab, this marks a milestone moment. “After ten years working with iconic sports brands, we’re thrilled to collaborate with a global gaming powerhouse to create our most ambitious game to date,” said Matheus Vivian, CEO of Hermit Crab Studio.

The project represents a fusion of creative independence and big-studio backing, giving the team both the freedom to experiment and the resources to execute on a larger scale.

A Celebration of Sports, Style, and Community

Sportia is designed as a vibrant, community-driven experience where players assemble teams of quirky, diverse characters — each with unique abilities, physiques, and personalities — to compete across multiple sports disciplines.

According to Ubisoft’s VP of Strategic Innovation Lab, Nicolas Pouard, the collaboration stems from a shared belief in accessibility and passion. “With Hermit Crab’s deep knowledge of sports games, we found a strong and reliable partner capable of delivering something truly fresh to both the gaming and sports worlds,” Pouard said.

Beyond its gameplay variety, Sportia will feature a distinctly Brazilian flavour, celebrating the energy, creativity, and inclusivity of the country’s sporting culture. The game promises light-hearted competition grounded in Hermit Crab’s arcade sensibilities — more about fun than realism.

What Players Can Expect

At its core, Sportia aims to deliver a blend of classic arcade charm and modern polish. Key features include:

Sportia does not yet have a confirmed release date, but its blend of colourful arcade energy, cultural authenticity, and Ubisoft backing makes it one of the most intriguing new sports titles on the horizon.
