PlayStation State of Play Japan 2025 All Announcements & Reveals

We have grown accustomed to the various State of Play presentations from Sony PlayStation in the past, but the latest one takes a different spin with a more regional focus. State of Play Japan packed plenty of announcements and reveals, with new and existing games getting plenty of airtime to get us all excited for what comes next.

If you were not able to join the fun for the live show, no worries at all. Let SavePoint Gaming take you through all the major showings that need your attention in the coming months and years.


Everything Shown at State of Play Japan

Octopath Traveler 0

Not only are we getting Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler 0 this December, but a new demo is available now, with progress that can be carried over. Snippets of the story, as well as more on the combat, were shown off as well in the State of Play Japan trailer.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Excited for superhero fighting? The Closed Beta for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will start this December 5 on PS5, adding Spider-Man and Ghost Rider into the arena. With a total of eight playable characters, players should have plenty of fun mixing and matching teams of four in the two new stages of Savage Land and the X-Mansion.

Elden Ring Nightreign: The Forsaken Hollows DLC

The multiplayer Souls spin-off will receive DLC in the form of The Forsaken Hollows, which is scheduled to arrive on December 4. Two new Nightfarers, the Scholar and the Undertaker, will provide new ways to play, while two new bosses should freshen things up further.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

A brand new story trailer for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined was dropped at State of Play Japan, giving fans a better look at the new and enhanced graphics both in gameplay and for cutscenes. Those who need a deeper understanding of how battles work will also benefit from checking out this latest footage.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will launch on February 5, 2026.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake

The horror genre keeps getting fresh meat, and this time, it’s the announcement of the release date for Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja’s Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake. Minakami Village awaits a new generation of players, and you can get ready to try to escape this coming March 12, 2026.

Dynasty Warriors: Origin Visions of Four Heroes DLC

We continue with more Koei Tecmo goodness in the State of Play Japan show, this time with Omega Force. The strong return of the Musou franchise with Dynasty Warriors: Origins is getting more content in the form of new DLC. The Visions of Four Heroes will feature fictional scenarios for the likes of Zhang Jiao, Dong Zhuo, Yuan Shao, and Lu Bu, with more of the signature action of defeating thousands of soldiers as a single hero.

Inkonbini: One Store. Many Stories

Cosiness comes in the form of being a store clerk in Inkonbini: One Store. Many Stories. Coming in April 2026, this game aims to captures the small moments of everyday life in a quiet town, where interacting with familiar faces will help shape their stories as you make different choices.

Coffee Talk Tokyo

Another spin-off that is highly anticipated, Coffee Talk Tokyo showed up at State of Play Japan with a release date of March 5, 2026. Transporting players to a cosy café in Tokyo, this narrative adventure sees you becoming a barista once more, brewing comforting cups of coffee and listening to the stories of both humans and yōkai descendants who visit the café.

BrokenLore: UNFOLLOW and BrokenLore: Ascend

We get not one but two new horror entries during State of Play Japan that should keep genre fans excited. The single-player psychological horror anthology BrokenLore was on hand to show off two major updates.

The first is a new trailer and a January 16 release date for BrokenLore: Unfollow, which features a story themed around the dark side of social media. The second is the surprise reveal of BrokenLore: Ascend, a survival horror experience with climbing elements that takes place in Tokyo.

BrokenLore: UNFOLLOW will be released on January 16, 2026, while BrokenLore: Ascend will be released sometime in Summer 2026.

Gran Turismo 7 Power Pack DLC

Gran Turismo Series Producer Kazunori Yamauchi appeared on the State of Play Japan showcase to announce that the Gran Turismo 7 Power Pack will be released on December 4. The premium add-on will introduce a brand-new game mode featuring authentic motorsport challenges, including 24-hour endurance racing and full race weekends. 

MotionRec

MotionRec is a unique offering that combines puzzle and action elements. As seen at State of Play Japan, players will move, jump, and record their actions, replaying them to overcome seemingly impossible paths. It will require some creative strategies and gimmicks to explore ruined stages and uncover the mysteries of a machine-dominated world. The game arrives in Spring 2026

Wandering Sword

Bringing together a complete edition with all DLC, RPG Wandering Sword will launch on May 28, 2026, with pre-orders starting today. Set in ancient China and brought to life with stunning pixel art, it features dual battle modes, twenty endings shaped by player choices, and a full Japanese voiceover by an all-Japanese cast.

No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files

If figuring things out is your thing, join Special Investigator Kaname Date and his AI partner Aiba as they pursue the case of a kidnapped net idol, Iris. No Sleep for Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files launches on February 26, 2026, for both the PlayStation 4 and 5. On PS5, the game will boast enhanced visuals that bring every moment of the investigation to life.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer

A apt and surprise return after 20 years at State of Play Japan, Tokyo Xtreme Racer brings its brand of high-octane racing onto the PS5 on February 25, 2026. Prepare to battle in a sealed-off Tokyo against over 400 rivals, tuning your car for every challenge that comes your way. With a unique Spirit Point system, you will need to use everything you have to come out on top across 180 km of faithfully recreated highways.

Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse

A new trailer for roguelike Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse was shared at the State of Play Japan showcase, including a release date of March 5, 2026. Yasuomi Sakai, Producer at Pocketpair, was on hand to talk about the game’s boss battles, highlighting their unique attack patterns and special mechanics.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect X

More roguelike gooness, this time in the form of spin-off BlazBlue Entropy Effect X. Launching on PlayStation 5 on February 12, 2026, the game will feature 14 familiar characters from the series and a brand-new story, allowing players to craft their own playstyle through deep character build options.

Damon & Baby

Arriving on both PS4 and PS5, this action-adventure sees a cursed demon lord and a human child come together for a road trip of a lifetime filled with twin-stick shooting. Collect loot, get stronger, and witness an unlikely bond developing. This is one game from State of Play Japan that we are eager to learn more about for sure.

Kyouran Makaism

A title worth checking out, Kyouran Makaism is a new 3D action RPG from the Disgaea team that is launching on January 29, 2026. Defeated foes can be transformed into 16 types of Familiars, under your command to fight or used as powerful weapons, all in the name of reclaiming your stolen pudding.

Fate Trigger

The hero shooter genre is getting one more entry in Fate Trigger, which kicks off early access in Q1 2026. As seen at State of Play Japan, two new heroes join the roster: Fari, an attacker who creates clones, and TaTa, a defender with mini-turrets, together with a new map, Pale Blight Outpost.

PlayStation 27″ Gaming Monitor with DualSense Charging Hook

An unexpected hardware reveal at State of Play Japan, the PlayStation 27” Gaming Monitor with DualSense Charging Hook will arrive in the U.S. and Japan in 2026. It promises stunning visuals from the latest PS5 games with a Quad High Definition (QHD) IPS display up to 2560 x 1440 resolution, High Dynamic Range support, VRR support and refresh rates of up to 120 Hz on PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles, and 240 Hz on compatible PC and Mac devices. 

Other DLC Content for Games

The State of Play Japan presentation also detailed several DLCs that are coming for existing games, including:

  • Monster Hunter Wild Free Title Update 4
    • The Monster Hunter Wilds Free Title Update 4 arrives on December 16, and adds the Giant Halberd Dragon, Gogmazios, plus new endgame content and seasonal events.
  • Digimon Story Time Stranger – Episode Pack 1: Alternate Dimension
    • New content is coming to Digimon Story Time Stranger with the first Season Pass DLC, Alternate Dimension, arriving this winter. The DLC will introduce five unique Digimon and a new story centred on key characters.
  • Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds SpongeBob SquarePants Pack
    • The iconic SpongeBob SquarePants himself will be joining the racing fun in the Sega racer this November 20.
  • Once Upon A Katamari DLC
    • This November, Once Upon a Katamari adds new content with the Katamari Dance Dance Remix Pack, featuring five fresh remix tracks and custom costumes. Another pack, the Katamari Neo Remix Pack, will follow this winter.
  • Pac-Man World 2: Re-Pac DLC
    • As for Pac-Man World 2: Re-Pac, Sonic the Hedgehog is making a visit with brand-new stages inspired by Sonic’s world, packed with signature speed, classic gimmicks, and familiar faces. Prepare to face off against Dr Eggman in an epic boss battle starting today on PS5 and PS4.
  • Super Robot Wars Y DLC Pack 1
    • DLC Pack 1 launches on November 20, and will feature crossover content from Galactic Whirlwind Bryger, The Big O, and Fūto PI: Portrait of Kamen Rider Skull. The update adds new area missions and playable units inspired by these three titles.

All in all, the State of Play Japan presentation was brimming with interesting reveals and exciting news, and should give players plenty to think about as they head into the end of 2025 and the start of 2026.
