Death Stranding: Isolations Expands the Universe Once Again
Few creators extend their worlds as consistently as Hideo Kojima. What began as a strange, divisive, and unforgettable video game in Death Stranding has grown into a whole multimedia franchise. With two mainline games, a live-action film in development, and an anime project codenamed Mosquito previously announced, Kojima Productions has continued to explore new avenues for the series.
The studio has now confirmed its next step. The Death Stranding universe will return through an entirely new anime titled Death Stranding: Isolations.
An Original Story Within the Death Stranding Mythos
According to Kojima Productions, Isolations will tell a completely original narrative set in the same world as the games. The story will centre on two unnamed protagonists, a man and a woman whose identities remain undisclosed.
Early details also mention two supporting characters. One is an elderly man who has chosen to live beyond the protection of the Bridges network, while the other is a female fighter who longs for a wilder and more chaotic world.
These hints suggest a more intimate take on the themes that define Death Stranding. Isolation, human connection, and the struggle to rebuild a fractured society appear to be at the core of the new storyline.
A Hand-Drawn Anime With Top Tier Talent
Unlike many modern anime adaptations that rely on hybrid or fully digital pipelines, Death Stranding: Isolations will be created using traditional 2D hand-drawn animation.
The series will be directed by Takayuki Sano, a veteran animator whose work spans some of the most influential titles in the industry, including Attack on Titan, One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist, and One Punch Man (Season 1). Production will be handled by E and H Production, Sano’s newly established studio.
Character design will be led by Ilya Kuvshinov, known for his distinctive style in works such as Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2045 and The Wonderland. His involvement signals a visually expressive and atmospheric interpretation of Kojima’s world.
Exclusive to Disney+ in 2027
Kojima Productions has confirmed that Death Stranding: Isolations will stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027. The episode count has not been revealed, though the announcement has already generated significant anticipation among fans of the franchise.
With its hand-drawn art, seasoned creative team, and original narrative, Isolations promises to be a fresh and emotional entry in the Death Stranding universe. Kojima’s world has never stayed contained to a single medium, and this latest adaptation continues to reflect his drive to explore new forms of storytelling.
