According to Valve engineer Yazan Aldehayyat, the new hardware is not only designed for living room convenience but is expected to outpace the majority of PCs currently used by Steam players.

Speaking in an interview with Adam Savage’s Tested, Aldehayyat stated that Valve’s internal benchmarks place the device’s performance equivalent to or higher than 70% of gaming PCs tracked through the ongoing Steam Hardware Survey.
This claim directly positions the Steam Machine as a viable option for players who want a simple plug-and-play system, yet still expect modern PC level performance.
Targets 4K Sixty Frames Per Second With Modern Titles
Alongside its percentile claim, Valve says the machine will be capable of running contemporary releases at 4K, 60FPS, using techniques such as AMD FSR upscaling to maintain image quality and frame stability.
Aiming to Replace Costly Entry-Level PC Builds
If the Steam Machine genuinely holds up to these projections, it may appeal to players priced out of high-end PC builds. Valve appears intent on offering a device that performs competitively without the cost or complexity of traditional desktop hardware.
