Tides of Annihilation Shows Off New Cinematic Gameplay in Xbox Preview
A New Wave of Chinese AAA Ambition
The success of Black Myth: Wukong has opened the floodgates for ambitious new projects from China, with many studios now delivering visually rich, mechanically robust action titles.
Among this new generation, Eclipse Glow Games‘ Tides of Annihilation has emerged as an early standout. Its blend of high-end production values, striking fantasy themes, and fluid combat animation has positioned it as one of the most closely watched action RPGs currently in development.
The game resurfaced during the latest Xbox Partner Preview, offering a deeper look at its world and its focus on dramatic, character-driven encounters.
A New Gameplay Showcase Focused on a Boss Encounter
Eclipse Glow Games presented a five-minute gameplay sequence, giving fans an uninterrupted look at a full boss battle. The showcase showcases in-game visuals, though the developer notes that the footage does not necessarily reflect the final quality of the commercial build.
Even so, the demonstration reinforces the studio’s ambitions, revealing a battle rich in visual clarity, animation detail, and cinematic pacing.

Gwendolyn Faces Tyronoe in a High-Intensity Duel
The new Tides of Annihilation footage features the protagonist, Gwendolyn, locked in a fierce confrontation with Tyronoe, a shapeshifting sorcerer closely tied to Arthurian lore. The fight is framed through sweeping camera angles and visually dense effects, with Tyronoe shifting forms mid-battle.
As seen in earlier reveals, Gwendolyn can summon Lamorak, one of the Knights of the Round Table. Lamorak’s intervention plays a key role in the encounter, breaking Tyronoe’s magical shield so that Gwendolyn can continue her assault. The combination attacks between the two characters emphasise a system built around synergy, timing, and spectacle.
The trailer further positions Lamorak as a figure with a complex history, one that intertwines with Tyronoe in ways yet to be explored. The relationship between these characters hints at a much larger narrative structure beneath the surface.
Recruitment and the Folded Realm
Eclipse Glow Games has confirmed that Lamorak will not be the only Knight available in Tides of Annihilation. Players will be able to recruit additional Knights throughout the journey, although the studio has not yet outlined the total roster or the recruitment conditions.
The showcase also offers a glimpse of the Folded Realm, a mysterious dimension that appears to carry significant narrative weight. Little is known about its purpose, but its presence reinforces the game’s fusion of Arthurian legend with high fantasy worldbuilding.
Platforms and Release Information
Tides of Annihilation is currently planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The studio has not yet provided a release window. Given the scale hinted at in the reveals so far, development is expected to continue for some time.
