Total War Reveals Medieval III, Warhammer III Expansion, and Next-Gen Engine Ahead of The Game Awards

SEGA and Creative Assembly Announce Medieval III, Warhammer III: Lords of the End Times, and New ‘Warcore’ Engine

Total War Medieval III Announcement Marks a Return to History

SEGA and Creative Assembly marked the 25th anniversary of Total War with a showcase loaded with major reveals, led by the confirmation of Total War: Medieval III. Long requested by the community, the new entry signals a full return to the series’ historical pillars after years focused on fantastical and hybrid settings.

Still in early pre-production, Medieval III aims to deepen historical authenticity, player agency, and world-building, positioning itself as a modern rebirth of the franchise’s historical identity. Creative Assembly emphasised that it intends to give players unprecedented freedom to shape realms, rewrite medieval history, and engage with a much larger, more complex system.

A live-action teaser served as the project’s first public reveal, hinting at a grounded, dramatic tone for the series’ next era.

The anniversary event also included a small but deliberate tease: a third unannounced title, which will receive its full reveal during The Game Awards on December 11. According to Creative Assembly, this project represents one of the most ambitious undertakings in Total War’s history and will signal a major shift for the franchise going forward.

Warhammer III Expands With Lords of the End Times

As part of the 10th anniversary of the Total War: Warhammer series, Creative Assembly unveiled Lords of the End Times, a new expansion arriving in Summer 2026 for Warhammer III.

The pack introduces four new Legendary Lords to the enormous Immortal Empires campaign, starting with the long-awaited return of Nagash, the Great Necromancer and one of Warhammer’s most iconic villains. In the reveal trailer, Nagash emerges intent on reclaiming his lost power and submerging the world in undeath.

The expansion coincides with a significant free update known as the End Times Update, which will overhaul Immortal Empires with apocalyptic scenarios inspired by classic Warhammer lore. Creative Assembly describes it as a transformative shift that introduces cataclysmic events, new strategic pressures, and escalating global threats. The update will also culminate in the arrival of a new Legendary Lord tied to the unfolding catastrophe.

Total War: Warhammer III Expands With Lords of the End Times

Importantly, the studio stressed that Total War: Warhammer is far from finished. Lords of the End Times signals the next stage of long-term support, with more content and expansions planned beyond 2026. An in-engine trailer accompanied the announcement, showcasing the grim, high-stakes direction the series is now steering toward.

Warcore Introduces Total War’s Next Evolution — And Brings the Series to Consoles

The showcase also introduced Warcore, Creative Assembly’s next-generation engine built to power future Total War projects.

Designed as the franchise’s most advanced technological foundation to date, Warcore aims to support more dynamic battles, richer simulation systems, and higher fidelity campaign experiences across future releases. The engine will continue evolving over time, allowing developers to push further into large-scale strategy without being constrained by legacy technology.

In a major first for the franchise, Warcore also enables Total War games to launch on PlayStation and Xbox. This expansion into console platforms marks a significant evolution for the series, which has traditionally been PC-exclusive.

Creative Assembly noted that Warcore’s architecture is deliberately designed for scalability, bringing the series’ hallmark tactical depth to a broader audience.
