Remedy Announces Control Resonant at The Game Awards 2025
A New Sequel Confirmed After Months of Speculation
Following rife speculation, Remedy Entertainment arrived at The Game Awards 2025 to officially reveal Control Resonant, the long-awaited sequel to its 2019 supernatural action hit.
The announcement follows months of hints in company briefings and a series of trademark discoveries that fuelled early speculation among fans. It arrives as one of several major projects in development at the studio, including the Max Payne remakes.
Presented with a striking cinematic trailer, Control Resonant positions itself as both a continuation of the original story and a standalone entry designed to welcome new players.
Dylan Faden Takes the Lead With a New Combat Identity
For the first time in the series, the narrative shifts away from Jesse Faden and instead centres on her brother Dylan Faden, whose immense paranormal powers made him a pivotal figure in the first game.
The sequel begins with the Federal Bureau of Control unexpectedly releasing Dylan for a singular mission. A cosmic entity has distorted Manhattan into a geophysical nightmare, and Dylan is the only one capable of confronting it.
As he searches for Jesse, Dylan wields a new primary weapon known as The Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee armament that adapts to the player’s combat style. Remedy confirmed that Control Resonant will emphasise close-quarters action, marking a distinct shift away from the firearm-heavy combat of the original game. This mechanical redesign is intended to make encounters more physical, aggressive and expressive.
A Warped Manhattan and Expanded RPG Progression
The new setting, a twisted version of Manhattan, is more than a backdrop. Remedy describes it as a large, dynamic location packed with secrets, reality distortions, and supernatural intrusions. The environment will shift as players progress, building on the surreal design principles that defined the Federal Bureau of Control.

Control Resonant will also introduce deeper action-RPG systems. Players can invest in Dylan’s powers, enhance The Aberrant and experiment with multiple builds. The goal, according to Remedy, is to provide flexible playstyles that suit brawler-focused approaches, ability-driven strategies or hybrid configurations.
Control Resonant is scheduled to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a more precise date to be announced in the coming months.
