Bandai Namco Addresses Fan Backlash Over Tales Remaster Choices

Bandai Namco confirms the Tales of Remastered project will explore classic entries starting in 2026.

Tales of Berseria Remastered Is Just the Beginning, Says Producer

JRPG Fans Question the Direction of the Remaster Initiative

For many JRPG fans, remasters serve a practical and celebratory purpose. They preserve legacy titles, modernise accessibility, and bridge the gap while new mainline entries remain in development.

When Bandai Namco announced a Tales of Remastered initiative to mark the franchise’s 30th anniversary, expectations were understandably high.

Instead of excitement, however, the initial response was mixed. Fans questioned why the first remastered titles were games that still feel relatively modern rather than older entries that have been unavailable on contemporary platforms for years.

The announcement of Tales of Berseria Remastered, originally released in 2016, became the focal point of that frustration.

Producer Reassures Fans in 30th Anniversary Address

Those concerns were addressed directly by Yusuke Tomizawa, producer of the Tales series, during a special 30th anniversary video message. Tomizawa acknowledged the feedback and clarified that Berseria Remastered is not the endpoint of the initiative.

According to Tomizawa, once the current remaster launches in February 2026, the remaster project will shift its attention toward older Tales titles that fans regard as classics.

While no specific games were named, the statement strongly suggests that long-requested entries currently tied to legacy hardware are finally under consideration.

The reassurance was met positively across the community, even without concrete confirmations. For many fans, the acknowledgement alone signals that Bandai Namco is listening.

A New Mainline Tales Game Is Still on the Way

Alongside the remaster discussion, Tomizawa reaffirmed that development of an entirely new mainline game continues. Details remain scarce, but industry chatter suggests the project may utilise Bandai Namco’s proprietary SOL-AVES engine, which could mark a significant technological shift for the series.

With a remaster roadmap expanding into the franchise’s deeper history and a new entry still in development, 2026 is shaping up to be a defining year for the Tales franchise. For longtime fans, patience may finally be rewarded on multiple fronts.
