A Decade-Old Game Back in the Spotlight
Nearly ten years after its original release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has unexpectedly returned to the centre of industry discussion. A growing rumour suggests that CD Projekt Red may be preparing a brand-new story expansion or paid DLC for the acclaimed RPG, despite the studio having publicly shifted focus to future projects.
The claim first emerged via Polish gaming influencer Borys Niespielak and was later referenced by a local securities analyst at Noble Securities, giving the rumour a level of attention rarely afforded to unconfirmed reports.
IGN Poland Adds Momentum to the Rumour
The speculation escalated significantly after a report from IGN Poland. According to the outlet, similar information had circulated internally several years ago but was never published because it originated from a single source at the time.
IGN Poland now states that the alleged expansion for The Witcher 3 would take place in Zerrikania, a region in The Witcher universe known for its arid climate and distinct cultural identity. Zerrikania has long been part of the lore but has never been fully explored in the games, making it a compelling choice for new story content.
Independent Corroboration From Polish Media

Shortly after IGN Poland’s report, another Polish outlet, PPE, confirmed that it had independently heard the same information about The Witcher 3 expansion. PPE has previously established credibility by accurately reporting on unannounced projects such as Doom: The Dark Ages and Microsoft Flight Simulator coming to PlayStation 5.
This alignment between multiple Polish sources has strengthened the belief that the rumour may stem from genuine internal discussions rather than coincidence or fan speculation.
Why Zerrikania Makes Narrative Sense
PPE also highlighted a potential narrative reason for revisiting The Witcher 3 at this stage. Within the lore, Zerrikania is believed to be linked to the School of the Manticore, a Witcher school said to have experimented with safer variations of the Trial of the Grasses.
Such a storyline could serve as a thematic bridge to The Witcher IV, particularly in contextualising changes to Ciri’s abilities and role in the franchise’s future. If true, the expansion could function as both a standalone adventure and a narrative connector between eras.
CD Projekt Red Remains Silent
As of now, CD Projekt Red has not commented on the reports. The studio is publicly known to be focused on The Witcher IV and the next Cyberpunk project, making the idea of returning to The Witcher 3 all the more surprising.
Until official confirmation arrives, the possibility of a new expansion remains firmly in the realm of rumour. Still, the prospect of revisiting Geralt’s world nearly a decade later has already reignited discussion across the community.
