Emberville Turns Farming RPGs on Their Head With Skill Inheritance and Action Combat

Emberville Blends Combat, Farming, and Creativity

Independent developer Cygnus Cross has confirmed that its debut title Emberville will launch into Steam Early Access in Summer 2026. The announcement was accompanied by a new gameplay trailer, offering a closer look at a project that aims to push beyond the familiar “fight and farm” formula.

In development since 2023, Emberville is positioning itself as a flexible action-adventure RPG built around fast-paced combat, deep class customisation, and player-driven progression, all set within a large procedurally generated world.

Co-Created With CohhCarnage

One of the most notable aspects of the game is the direct involvement of streamer CohhCarnage, who partnered with Cygnus Cross early in development. Rather than serving as a promotional figure, CohhCarnage has been involved in hands-on co-creation, working closely with the team to shape the game’s systems and overall direction.

The collaboration reflects the game’s “by gamers, for gamers” philosophy, with design decisions informed by long-term playtesting and community-driven feedback throughout development.

Skill Inheritance and Multi-Layered Combat

Combat in Emberville is built around a simple two-button foundation that expands into a much deeper system. Weapons feature their own combo trees, allowing players to unlock and chain different attack patterns to create powerful sequences. These weapon-bound combos sit alongside class-based abilities, encouraging experimentation across different loadouts.

A key differentiator is Emberville’s inherited skill system. As players level multiple classes, they can carry active and passive abilities forward into new classes, enabling highly customised builds. This approach allows players to tailor a single active combat class using skills learned elsewhere, rather than being locked into rigid archetypes.

Customisation Beyond Combat

Customisation extends far beyond fighting styles. The game includes a dedicated creative area where players can place buildings, decorations, farms, and crafting stations. Many structures offer further upgrade paths and functional bonuses, tying progression directly to how players shape their personal space.

To support the game’s wide range of activities, Emberville features a dynamic UI system that adjusts the HUD based on player context. Whether farming, fishing, building, or fighting, the interface adapts seamlessly without interrupting flow or forcing constant menu navigation.

Fully Voiced Characters and World Progression

Cygnus Cross has also confirmed that the game will be fully voiced. Doug Cockle and Alex Jordan are the first actors announced, with additional casting still to be revealed as development continues.

Emberville Combat

Progression in Emberville spans combat, crafting, gathering, and exploration. Players can rescue NPCs to rebuild the town, level weapon and armour categories to unlock new abilities, and explore a procedurally generated world filled with varied biomes, events, enemies, and hidden secrets.

Emberville will launch into Steam Early Access in Summer 2026, with Cygnus Cross targeting the release as the foundation for continued expansion and refinement. Additional features, content, and voice talent are expected to be revealed as development progresses.
