John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando Goes Full 80s Chaos With New Gameplay Overview & Demo

John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando Doubles Down on Co-Op Chaos

John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is leaning hard into its high-octane identity, with Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment releasing a new gameplay overview trailer that lays out exactly what players can expect when the game launches on March 12.

Blending 80s-inspired action horror with large-scale co-op shooting, the new footage highlights the studio’s experience with swarm-based combat and vehicle-driven mayhem.

Developed by the team behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and World War Z, Toxic Commando positions itself as a four-player cooperative shooter built around relentless enemy pressure, exaggerated weaponry, and fast-moving objectives across semi-open environments.

Four-Player Co-Op, Classes, and Swarm Combat

At its core, the game is designed around four-player co-op, tasking squads of mercenaries with surviving overwhelming waves of mutated enemies. Powered by Saber’s Swarm Engine technology, the game throws dense hordes at players across multiple mission types, emphasising constant movement and teamwork.

Players can choose from four distinct classes: Strike, Medic, Operator, and Defender. Each role brings its own abilities and tactical value, encouraging coordinated play rather than solo heroics. Matchmaking and private lobbies are supported, alongside full crossplay across all platforms at launch.

Vehicles, Weapons, and Semi-Open Missions

Beyond gunplay, Toxic Commando places a strong focus on vehicles as both means of traversal and weapons. Players can plough through enemy-infested zones using a variety of off-road vehicles, flattening monsters and navigating hostile terrain at speed.

The arsenal is equally excessive, featuring 16 primary weapon categories alongside a wide range of secondary tools. Shotguns, SMGs, sniper rifles, pistols, machetes, and crowbars are all on display, reinforcing the game’s emphasis on chaotic close-quarters combat as much as ranged firefights.

Missions take place across semi-open maps, allowing squads to approach objectives with a degree of freedom while still maintaining a tight, action-driven structure.

Steam Demo Confirmed for February

Ahead of release, players will be able to go hands-on with Toxic Commando through a limited-time Steam demo running from February 19 to March 2. The demo offers an early taste of the game’s co-op systems, enemy density, and class-based combat, giving players their first chance to feel the chaos in action.
