Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy Brings 3v3 Battles to iOS & Android This March

Dissidia Duellum Takes the Series in a New Direction

Square Enix is reshaping one of its most recognisable crossover brands with Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, a mobile-exclusive project set to launch in March 2026.

Traditionally, the Dissidia name has been associated with 3D arena fighters that unite iconic heroes and villains from across the Final Fantasy universe. However, Dissidia Duellum departs from that formula in both gameplay structure and aesthetic presentation.

Modern Setting, Reimagined Characters

While the crossover premise remains intact, the visual direction has shifted significantly. Instead of their classic fantasy attire, characters will appear in modern, real-world-inspired outfits tied to a contemporary urban setting.

The narrative unfolds in modern Tokyo, blending everyday life elements with the larger crossover storyline. Square Enix has confirmed that storytelling will remain a core pillar of the experience, with character interactions woven into the game’s competitive structure.

From Solo Fights to 3v3 Team Battles

Rather than a traditional fighting game, Dissidia Duellum is built around competitive 3v3 team-based encounters.

Teams will race to defeat waves of monsters faster than their opponents, shifting the focus from direct player-versus-player duels to cooperative execution and strategic coordination. Success hinges on team synergy, role selection and efficient wave clearing rather than one-on-one combat mastery.

Several fan-favourite characters have already been confirmed, including Cloud from Final Fantasy VII, Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII, Zidane from Final Fantasy IX and Rinoa from Final Fantasy VIII.

Free to Play, Pre-Registration Now Live

Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy will launch on Android and iOS devices in March 2026, though an exact release date has yet to be announced. The game will be free to play, with pre-registration currently open. Square Enix has not yet detailed the monetisation model.

With a new structure, modern aesthetic and competitive focus, Dissidia Duellum continues the vein of one of the boldest reinventions of the Final Fantasy series to date.
