His new team, Kintsugiyama, has officially unveiled The Legend of California, a multiplayer action survival first-person shooter set during the Gold Rush era, with an Early Access launch planned for 2026 on PC.
Rather than returning to the hero shooter space Kaplan helped define at Blizzard, The Legend of California is leaning into open-world survival staples: exploration, gathering, crafting, building, hunting, and fighting to stay alive in hostile territory.
It is also being published by Dreamhaven, adding another notable industry name to the project’s first impression.
