The Expanse: Osiris Reborn Opens a Supporter Closed Beta on April 22
Owlcat Games has announced a closed beta for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, opening on April 22 across PC and current-generation consoles. Access is tied to specific supporter purchases, and the beta is a work-in-progress intended to collect feedback on core systems ahead of the full release.
Alongside the beta announcement, Owlcat has released a new gameplay trailer shown during the Xbox Partner Preview and confirmed a broader release plan: The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is targeting a Spring 2027 launch on PC and consoles, including a day one release on Xbox Game Pass.
What the Beta Covers: Combat, Zero G Movement, and Choice Systems
The closed beta is framed as a slice of the game’s early setup, placing players as a Pinkwater Security mercenary in the wake of the catastrophic events on Eros. The beta content includes a remote space station environment tied to Pinkwater, where players can explore, interact with inhabitants, and test dialogue options and decision paths.
Once the story pressure escalates, players will also get hands-on with third-person combat and upgrade mechanics, with Owlcat calling out movement and combat behaviour in zero-g conditions as a key feature focus. The studio has also stated it intends to use beta feedback to refine balance, pacing, and overall feel before launch.
Owlcat also advises that beta performance may vary and will not reflect final quality, particularly on consoles, and recommends running the beta on Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 for the smoothest experience.
A Self-Contained Story Within The Expanse Universe
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is positioned as a story-driven action RPG with companions, player choice, and dynamic third-person combat as its pillars. While set in The Expanse universe, it is focused on original characters and a new plotline rather than directly adapting the books or TV series.
The premise centres on building a team and pushing back against Protogen and its experiments, framing the campaign around survival, loyalty, and the power dynamics that define The Expanse’s wider setting.
Launch Window and Game Pass Placement

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is currently planned for Spring 2027 on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG, as well as Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Owlcat has also confirmed a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass, which should give the game immediate reach beyond its core Expanse fandom.
The supporter closed beta begins April 22.
