Mixtape Delayed to 2026

Beethoven & Dinosaur and Annapurna Interactive’s coming-of-age adventure Mixtape has been delayed to 2026, with no new release date announced. The project has drawn attention whenever it has appeared, largely because it treats music as the structure of the story rather than a background feature, framing memories as playable vignettes.

The delay matters because Mixtape has been positioned as a relatively tight, authored narrative experience rather than a long-form live service. When a game like this slips, it usually signals polish and pacing work, the kind that can make the difference between a strong vibe and a cohesive, memorable whole.

What Is Changing, and What Is Not

The key update is timing. Mixtape was previously expected sooner, but it is now targeting 2026 without a specific date. Platform plans remain unchanged: it is still set for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it is still planned as a day-one Xbox Game Pass release.

From what has been shown so far, the premise remains intact: a one-day framing device built around three friends and their shared memories, with scenes that lean into classic coming-of-age touchstones and a soundtrack-forward presentation.

While developing Artful Escape, our 3D artist Mikey, made an oven asset. It was a nice oven – the work of a true pro. He even put the knobs on. And that’s who we are at Beethoven & Dinosaur. We put the knobs on. Mixtape is almost complete, we’re just putting the knobs on. See you in 2026.

Why This Delay Likely Helps the Game

For a music-led narrative game, the hard part is not “more content.” It is cohesion. Timing edits, transitions between vignettes, and how gameplay moments sync to licensed tracks can make or break the emotional landing. A delay here reads less like feature creep and more like final assembly work.

Beethoven & Dinosaur also has a clear legacy pressure point. The Artful Escape was praised for style and music integration, and Mixtape is being judged through that lens. Taking extra time to tighten the flow is the safer bet than shipping a game that feels like a playlist with gaps between the best moments.

Mixtape Characters

The next meaningful milestone is a firm 2026 date, ideally paired with clearer platform rollout details beyond the core trio. Until then, the most important takeaway is simple: Mixtape is still coming, it is still aligned with Game Pass plans, and the extra time suggests the team is prioritising finish over schedule.
