Tifa Street Fighter 6 Reveal Confirms a Long-Rumoured Crossover
Capcom has officially revealed the Year 4 character lineup for Street Fighter 6 at Summer Game Fest, and the biggest name on the list is one many fighting game fans have talked about for years: Tifa Lockhart.
The Final Fantasy VII heroine has often been seen as an obvious fit for a traditional fighting game. Her close-range martial arts style, long-running popularity, and physical combat identity made her a dream guest character for many players, even if most of that speculation usually placed her closer to Tekken than Street Fighter.
Instead, Capcom and Square Enix have made the crossover happen, as the heroine will join the roster in early 2027 as part of the Year 4 DLC slate, alongside new fighters Yasmine and Arjun, and World Tour character Bosch.
Capcom’s Year 4 Lineup Avoids The Expected Names
The reveal is especially interesting because it does not lean on the most obvious returning veterans. Year 4 begins with Yasmine on August 3. She is a high schooler from the Philippines searching for her missing brother, using a crescent-shaped karambit and quick movement taught by her grandfather.
Arjun follows in Autumn. His fighting style is built around what Capcom describes as Bare Knuckle Yoga, combining yogic breathing with explosive power. His backstory places him as a former police officer from India, now on the run while trying to uncover the truth behind a colleague’s death.
Bosch will close out the season in Spring 2027. He is already known to players through World Tour, where he serves as one of the story’s key figures and a major rival to the player-created character.
Tifa Becomes the Next Major Guest Fighter
The beloved character’s arrival is the reveal that will dominate the conversation. Capcom describes her as a practitioner of Zangan ryu Martial Arts and a member of AVALANCHE, directly tying her to the Final Fantasy VII Remake Series. Her story will see her transported to another world, where she encounters and bonds with new fighters.
Gameplay footage has not been fully shown yet, but Capcom has confirmed that Tifa will excel in close-range combat. She will combine martial arts techniques with unique powers called Abilities, giving her a clear Final Fantasy flavour without losing the physical fighting style that makes her such a natural fit.
Rumours Made The Reveal Even Bigger
Part of the excitement comes from how unlikely the reveal once seemed. Rumours of Tifa had circulated before Summer Game Fest, but they were easy to dismiss. Guest characters had already become part of the scene through Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui, yet Tifa still felt like a much bigger licensing swing.

With this latest addition, Capcom has not only added another guest fighter, but one of the most recognisable characters from one of Square Enix’s biggest franchises. It also gives Street Fighter 6 another major moment of crossover appeal. Her inclusion can pull in Final Fantasy VII fans who may not be regular fighting game players, while giving existing Street Fighter players a character with huge technical and cultural interest.
Street Fighter 6 is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. With Tifa now confirmed, Capcom has given the game one of its most surprising post-launch roster moments yet.
