Crazy Taxi: World Tour Brings SEGA’s Driving Series Back

SEGA has officially revealed Crazy Taxi: World Tour, a brand new instalment in its classic arcade driving series, during the Xbox Games Showcase.

The new game is scheduled to launch in 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. It will also support Xbox Play Anywhere, with wishlisting now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5.

For longtime SEGA fans, this marks a major return for one of the company’s most recognisable arcade names. Crazy Taxi built its reputation on reckless routes, loud music, fast fares, and the simple joy of turning every street into a shortcut, and a new generation will soon be able to experience that.

Axel Returns for a World Tour Campaign

Crazy Taxi: World Tour brings back longtime series protagonist Axel, who finds himself pulled into a new international adventure after a mysterious driver appears and sets events in motion.

The new story-driven campaign follows Axel as he chases masked villains who have stolen his beloved taxi. That setup gives the game a clearer narrative hook than the original arcade releases, while still keeping the focus on fast missions, risky driving, and earning as much money as possible.

The trailer also features All I Want by The Offspring, leaning directly into the energy many players still associate with Crazy Taxi’s early years.

Five Cities, Multiplayer, and Custom Rides

Crazy Taxi: World Tour will feature five unique cities, each with distinct terrain, routes, missions, and challenges. SEGA is also introducing multiplayer modes, allowing players to compete with friends and online rivals worldwide.

Vehicle customisation is another new focus. Players will be able to unlock a variety of vehicles and customise their rides, adding more personal style to the usual race-against-the-clock format. For players who want a more traditional experience, Classic Mode will also return through Arcade Mode. That should give longtime fans a more direct way to revisit the rhythm of the older games, even as Crazy Taxi: World Tour expands the formula.

Kenji Kanno Returns to Lead the Revival

Crazy Taxi: World Tour is being helmed by original Crazy Taxi creator Kenji Kanno, giving the revival a clear link back to the series’ roots. The original has always depended on momentum, map knowledge, reckless improvisation, and personality, and bringing the original creator back suggests SEGA understands that World Tour needs more than modern visuals to work.

More details will be shared later, but the broad shape is already clear. Crazy Taxi: World Tour is taking the arcade driving series global, with new cities, online competition, custom vehicles, and a campaign built around Axel’s next ride.
