Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV Multiplayer Gets a New Tactical Showcase

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV has received a fresh multiplayer showcase, with KING Art Games releasing two Battlefield Report videos focused on the strategy game’s four playable factions.

The videos feature Creative Director Jan Theysen and Senior Game Designer Elliott Verbiest facing off in two 1v1 multiplayer matches. Rather than simply showing units in isolation, the reports highlight how each faction is built around a different path to victory.

That should matter to long-time Dawn of War fans. The series has always been at its best when faction identity shapes how battles unfold, and these new videos suggest Dawn of War IV is leaning hard into that asymmetry.

Adeptus Mechanicus and Necrons Fight in Very Different Ways

The latest Battlefield Report puts the Adeptus Mechanicus against the Necrons, giving players a clearer look at two very different styles of battlefield control. The Adeptus Mechanicus rely on expanding their Noosphere Network, reinforcing key positions, and turning superior technology into punishing defensive firepower. Based on the footage, they look suited to players who enjoy careful positioning, layered defence, and making enemies pay for every step forward.

The Necrons, meanwhile, appear far more relentless. Their Power Matrix lets them methodically push across the map, while resurrection mechanics help them recover from losses and maintain pressure. Where the Adeptus Mechanicus dig in and fortify, the Necrons grind opponents down through persistence.

Space Marines and Orks Show Classic Warhammer Contrast

The previous Battlefield Report focused on Space Marines and Orks, offering a more familiar but still satisfying contrast. Space Marines are built around elite discipline, adaptability, and overwhelming force applied with precision. They may not match the sheer numbers of other factions, but their ability to break through key positions makes them dangerous in the hands of players who know when to strike.

Orks, naturally, are about momentum. Given room to grow, swarm, and surge across the battlefield, they can become increasingly difficult to stop. The match highlights the classic tension between controlled firepower and chaotic numbers, which remains one of Warhammer 40,000’s most reliable battlefield dynamics.

Year One Support Will Continue the War After Launch

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV launches on September 17 for PC, with Commander Edition players getting access from September 14 through a three-day early unlock. Both editions are available to pre-order now with a 10% discount.

KING Art Games is already looking beyond release as well. Year One support will include free updates that bring back Crusade Mode, along with new maps, modes, Commanders, and the Mission Editor. Two major story expansions are also planned, expanding the conflict on Kronus and introducing a new playable faction.

Dawn of War IV Is Building Around Faction Identity

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV Multiplayer Gets a New Tactical Showcase

The Battlefield Report videos make one thing clear: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is not treating its factions as simple reskins. Adeptus Mechanicus, Necrons, Space Marines, and Orks all appear to have distinct rhythms, strengths, and pressure points. That gives multiplayer a stronger foundation, especially for players who want to master one army rather than simply memorise a universal build order.

With the launch now set for September, these faction showcases are a smart way to show how Dawn of War IV plans to bring the series back to the battlefield.
