Beast of Reincarnation Update Targets Early Player Feedback

Game Freak is preparing its first major Beast of Reincarnation update after a divided launch response from players. Published by Fictions, the new action RPG marks one of Game Freak’s most ambitious projects outside the Pokémon series.

Rather than another creature-collecting title, Beast of Reincarnation is a one-person, one-dog action RPG set in a post-apocalyptic Japan, following Emma and her canine companion Koo through a world reshaped by blight.

The game has drawn praise in some circles for its combat ideas, especially the way Emma’s real-time swordplay works alongside Koo’s command-based abilities. However, early player response has also been mixed, with criticism aimed at camera behaviour, readability, technical quirks, and the way the story is paced.

Camera Adjustments and Larger Text Are Coming

Game Freak has now acknowledged that feedback directly. In a post shared through its official Japanese account, the studio said it is taking player feedback seriously and is planning continuous updates. The next patch is currently targeted for release within a week, although the exact date has not been confirmed.

The first round of changes will include camera adjustments, increased text size, and various bug fixes. These are practical fixes, but important ones. In an action RPG built around timing, movement, and enemy reads, an unreliable camera can quickly become more frustrating than any boss encounter.

The larger text size should also help readability, especially for players using smaller displays or sitting further away from the screen when playing Beast of Reincarnation.

Story Pacing Will Be Improved Over Time

The most interesting planned change is not technical. Game Freak says story pacing improvements are also part of the patch plan, with further adjustments expected to continue beyond the next update. The studio has not explained exactly what those changes will involve, so players should not expect a major rewrite or complete restructuring.

Still, it is unusual to see story pacing listed so directly in an early post-launch patch plan. That suggests Game Freak has heard enough feedback about the flow of the narrative to make it a priority. For a game built around Emma and Koo’s bond, pacing matters. If players are pulled out of the experience too often, or if key story beats don’t land cleanly, even strong combat may not be enough to carry the whole adventure.

The patch will also change the default movie setting from Cinematic Mode to Performance Mode. That is a small but telling adjustment. Players have criticised the way some scenes present themselves, and making Performance Mode the default should make the experience feel smoother for new players without requiring them to dig through the settings menu first.

Game Freak notes that the contents of the patch may still change, so the final update could differ slightly from the current plan.

Steam Reviews Remain Mixed

At the time of writing, Beast of Reincarnation holds a Mixed user review rating on Steam. The response appears more split than disastrous, with many players still finding things to like in its combat system, world, and central pairing. The problem is that the rough edges are difficult to ignore, especially for a release carrying the weight of Game Freak’s name.

The studio has also opened an official feedback form, encouraging players to continue sharing bugs, suggestions, and other concerns. That gives the game a clearer path for post-launch improvement, but it also puts pressure on Game Freak to act quickly and consistently.

For now, Beast of Reincarnation is not being left alone after launch. Whether these early updates can shift the wider conversation will depend on how much the first patch improves the moment-to-moment experience.
