Ghost Recon 25th Anniversary Update Adds Last Rites and 4K/60 FPS Support
Ubisoft is celebrating 25 years of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon with a major free update for Ghost Recon Wildlands, alongside the return of the Predator event and a new Insider Program for the future of the series.
The headline addition is Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites, a free standalone mission available now across Ubisoft+, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC through the Ubisoft Store, Epic Games Store, and Steam.
Developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux, Last Rites sends the Ghosts back into Bolivia for a darker mission against Los Penitentes, a cult led by La Llorona. Players will move through swamps and dense forests where low visibility and hostile forces make the operation feel more oppressive than the base game’s usual open-world rhythm.
Ghost Recon Wildlands Finally Gets Current-Gen Improvements
The update also modernises Ghost Recon Wildlands for current hardware. On PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, players can now experience smoother 60 FPS gameplay, visual upgrades, improved distance rendering, enhanced lighting and shadows, and a sharper image targeting 4K resolution.
That is a notable upgrade for a 2017 release that still has a loyal tactical shooter audience. Wildlands has always been one of Ubisoft’s more open-ended co-op sandboxes, and the current-gen patch should make returning to Bolivia feel much better in motion.
The fan-favourite Predator event is also back. Originally introduced years ago as a special crossover event, the Predator mission became one of Wildlands’ most memorable oddities, sending players into the jungle against a dangerous extraterrestrial threat. Its return gives veteran players another reason to revisit the game, while newer players get a chance to see why the event became such a talking point.
More Ways to Tune the Tactical Experience
Ubisoft has also expanded the game’s customisation options. Players can now adjust gameplay, difficulty, environment, and UI parameters to better shape their own version of Ghost Recon Wildlands. That includes enemy behaviour, damage values, weapon restrictions, friendly fire, weather, and HUD elements.
For long-time players, this may be the most meaningful part of the update. Rather than simply improving performance, Ubisoft is giving players more control over realism, challenge, and immersion.
Future Soldier Is Still Free to Claim
Ubisoft also marked the anniversary with several franchise offers. Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint were free to play from August 6–10. Meanwhile, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is free to redeem on PC through Ubisoft Connect until August 13, giving players a few more days to permanently add it to their library.
In September, Ghost Recon Breakpoint will also receive a 25th Anniversary Bundle with free items including the M4A1 Tactical Brown, Wolf Enhanced Helmet, and Opheis Mk.II Hunter.
Ghost Recon Insider Program Opens for the Next Game
The most forward-looking announcement is the Ghost Recon Insider Program. Ubisoft says players can sign up for a chance to help shape the next Ghost Recon, which suggests the publisher is preparing to put the next entry in front of selected community members for feedback.
That does not amount to a full reveal, but it is the clearest sign yet that Ubisoft is ready to start talking about the franchise’s future. For now, Ghost Recon Wildlands is the main beneficiary of the anniversary, and this is a stronger update than many players probably expected. A new mission, 4K/60 FPS support, expanded settings, and the return of Predator make this a meaningful reason to return to Bolivia.
