Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition Explores Atsu’s Past in Echoes of Sekigahara
Sucker Punch Productions is not finished with Atsu’s story. After Ghost of Yōtei launched last year as a more personal follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, the studio is returning to Ezo with Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, a new package that brings the base game, Ghost of Yōtei Legends, and a substantial collection of new content to PlayStation 5.
The headline addition is Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara, a new narrative expansion arriving as part of the Complete Edition rollout on October 1.
Atsu Returns to Ezo With Nagato
Echoes of Sekigahara is split between the present and the past. In the present-day storyline, Atsu encounters Nagato, a figure from her past who has arrived in Ezo. Their journey will take players into a previously unseen valley once tied to The Snake and his followers, the Vipers.
That gives the expansion a strong link to the original campaign while opening up a fresh location to explore. Sucker Punch has also confirmed new enemies, heavy weapons, armour sets, dyes, and more, giving returning players something beyond story context to chase.
Sekigahara Shows a Key Moment Before Atsu’s Revenge
The past timeline is where the expansion may prove most interesting. Through flashbacks, players will experience Atsu’s time during the Battle of Sekigahara and see a key moment in her life before she returned home for her revenge quest.
By going back to Sekigahara, the expansion has a chance to show more of who Atsu was before she became the warrior players met in the main game. It also gives Sucker Punch room to connect the personal stakes of Atsu’s story with one of Japan’s most consequential historical conflicts, even if the studio’s world remains a fictionalised version of history.
Most Wanted Adds Roguelike Survival Runs
The Complete Edition is not only adding story content. Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted is a new single-player combat survival mode with roguelike elements. Players will accept bounties to start runs, defeat enemies to earn perks, and unlock additional playable characters over time.
Atsu returns with her dual katana, while Oyuki uses the kusarigama and Nagato fights with a yari. That should give the mode more variety than a simple arena challenge, especially if each character pushes players into different combat rhythms.
For players who enjoyed Ghost of Yōtei most for its duels and combat flow, Most Wanted could become the better reason to return after finishing the story.
Complete Edition Includes More Extras
Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition will be priced at US$69.99 for new players. Existing owners can purchase the Complete Edition Upgrade for US$14.99, which includes Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted. The Complete Edition also includes the main game, Ghost of Yōtei Legends, the content previously included in the Digital Deluxe Edition, and the Charm of Hokkyokusei.
Players who purchase by September 30 will also receive early access to the Sakai Armour on October 1, bringing Jin’s family armour from Ghost of Tsushima into Atsu’s wardrobe.
Beyond the paid content, Sucker Punch is also preparing a free update for all Ghost of Yōtei owners. This will add Beauty of Yōtei mode, new quality-of-life features, the option to keep one armour set’s appearance while using another set’s stats, and a new high-contrast accessibility option.
Atsu’s Story Gets a Proper Second Chapter
The Complete Edition arrives almost exactly 1 year after Ghost of Yōtei first launched, making this feel like a proper anniversary return rather than a small content drop.
The most exciting part is still Echoes of Sekigahara. Atsu’s revenge story was already complete, but her past clearly still has room to be explored. If the expansion can make Sekigahara feel personal rather than simply historical, it could add real weight to a character many players have already spent dozens of hours with.
Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition launches on October 1 for PlayStation 5. In some territories, including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, patch v2.0 content will arrive on October 2.
