Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Officially Confirmed
For Harry Potter fans, Hogwarts Legacy delivered something many had wanted for years. The action RPG let players explore a large recreation of the Wizarding World, attend Hogwarts, learn spells and head beyond the castle grounds through an original adventure set in the 1800s.
Those who have been waiting for another trip to Hogwarts now have the confirmation they wanted. Warner Bros. Discovery has officially revealed that a second Hogwarts Legacy game is part of its upcoming gaming pipeline.
The confirmation appears in the company’s latest shareholder letter, where Warner Bros. Discovery lists the “second installment of Hogwarts Legacy” among the games it expects to help grow its Studios business.
Hogwarts Legacy Has Sold More Than 40 Million Copies
A follow-up is hardly surprising given how successful the original game has become. The game has surpassed 40 million copies sold worldwide since its original launch in 2023, putting it among the biggest commercial successes in Warner Bros. Games’ catalogue.
Developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games under the Portkey Games label, the original launched across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC before expanding to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
That performance has understandably made the series an important part of Warner Bros. Games’ future. The company says its refocused games strategy now revolves around fewer, higher conviction releases built around four franchises valued at more than US$1 billion, with Hogwarts Legacy firmly part of that pipeline.
No Developer or Release Date Has Been Announced
Beyond confirming another game exists, Warner Bros. Discovery has revealed little else. There is currently no release date, platform information or indication of how far development has progressed.
The company also did not name the developer of the sequel. Avalanche Software created the first Hogwarts Legacy, making it an obvious candidate to return, but Warner Bros. Discovery has not confirmed whether the studio is handling the next instalment.
There is also no official title yet. While Hogwarts Legacy 2 will inevitably become the shorthand for the project, Warner Bros. Discovery currently refers to it only as the second instalment.
Warner Bros. Games Is Betting on Its Biggest Franchises
The sequel arrives as Warner Bros. Games continues to narrow its focus around established properties following a period of restructuring and underperforming releases.
Its latest financial update makes clear that games remain an important growth area for the wider company, with Warner Bros. Discovery expecting the division to contribute more meaningfully as its upcoming pipeline expands.
For now, though, fans will have to wait to find out whether the next Hogwarts Legacy continues the original game’s story and setting, explores another period of the Wizarding World, or heads somewhere entirely new, or takes the franchise in an entirely different direction.
