Shop Crush Trailer Reveals a Much Stranger Kind of Shop Simulator

Running a shop normally means worrying about stock levels, pricing and keeping customers happy. In Shop Crush, apparently you also need to worry about whatever horrifying secrets those customers are hiding.

Developer and publisher Bslteam has released a new gameplay trailer for Shop Crush, offering a clearer look at the unusual mix of shop management, visual-novel storytelling, and psychological horror that underpin the indie game.

Set during the early 2000s, players take control of a mysterious thrift shop and deal with a rotating collection of regular customers. Keeping the business alive means ordering stock, negotiating prices and watching demand, but every transaction can also affect the shop’s reputation.

Every Shop Crush Customer Has Their Own Habits

Customers are more than randomly generated shoppers looking for a bargain. The game currently features 10 distinct clients, each with different spending habits, preferred products and personalities. Players can develop relationships with them and even improve individual customers, increasing factors such as how frequently they visit and how much they are willing to spend.

More than 70 products are planned, ranging from ordinary essentials to considerably stranger merchandise. Safe products provide predictable income, while riskier goods can generate bigger profits at the potential expense of reputation.

Players can also haggle, reject suspicious deals and deal with shoplifters as they try to keep the business running.

Literal Illusions Hide the Psychological Horror

The stranger side of Shop Crush emerges through what the developer calls Literal Illusions. These puzzles require players to manipulate hidden images by rotating, dragging and zooming them until a different picture becomes visible. Each customer has an illusion associated with their personality, with solving them gradually revealing the darker truth behind both the characters and the shop itself.

The latest trailer puts much more emphasis on this loop, moving between normal shop management, conversations and increasingly surreal imagery. That combination is what gives Shop Crush its more distinctive identity. One moment might involve deciding which stock to order, while another might ask whether what you are seeing around the shop can actually be trusted.

Shop Crush Is Targeting Q2 2027

Shop Crush Gameplay

Bslteam recently completed an extended public playtest covering the opening three chapters, with the developer saying participation exceeded its expectations. Feedback from that test is now being incorporated into further development.

The developer’s current press kit lists Shop Crush for Q2 2027 on Windows, Mac, Linux, web and Steam Deck, although its Steam page still displays a broader 2026 release placeholder.

Whatever date ultimately sticks, the new trailer does a much better job of explaining the pitch. Running this thrift shop is about making money, but figuring out exactly who is walking through the door may be considerably more important.
