Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition Returns on October 13

One of Creative Assembly’s most celebrated historical strategy games is returning, with SEGA and the studio announcing Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition for October 13. The new release brings together Total War: SHOGUN 2 and its major additional content while updating the 2011 strategy game for modern PC hardware.

That means players can once again try to unite a fractured Japan through diplomacy, espionage, and conquest, with improvements ranging from 4K UI scaling to modernised controls and ultrawide monitor support.

Three Total War: SHOGUN 2 Campaigns Cover More Than 700 Years

The Complete Edition includes all three standalone campaigns, covering vastly different periods of Japanese history and warfare. The original SHOGUN 2 campaign takes place during the Sengoku Jidai, tasking players with transforming their chosen clan from a regional power into the dominant force capable of claiming the Shogunate.

Rise of the Samurai winds the clock back to 1175 and the Genpei War, exploring the conflict that helped shape the rise of Japan’s first Shogunate.

At the other end of the timeline is Fall of the Samurai, which moves into the 19th-century Boshin War and the growing conflict between traditional Samurai warfare and industrialisation. Together, the three campaigns stretch from the rise of the Samurai through to their decline.

Visual Upgrades and More Than 50 Playable Factions

This is not simply the existing package bundled together again. Creative Assembly is introducing several technical and accessibility improvements intended to make Total War: SHOGUN 2 more comfortable to play on contemporary systems.

Visuals, lighting and shadows have been improved, alongside 1440p and 4K UI scaling, ultrawide support and a 64-bit upgrade. Controls have also been modernised, while colourblind accessibility options are being added.

Perhaps more significantly for returning players, the Complete Edition will feature more than 50 newly playable factions and integrated Mod.io support. Japanese and Chinese voice and text localisation are also being introduced as part of the updated release.

Existing SHOGUN 2 Owners Get a 75% Loyalty Discount

Creative Assembly has not forgotten players who already own Total War: SHOGUN 2 either. Existing owners will receive legacy DLC from the original release at no additional cost and qualify for a time-limited 75% loyalty discount on Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition. One notable omission is the Blood Pack, which will not be included in the new package.

Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition launches on October 13, giving returning strategists and newcomers another chance to fight through centuries of Japanese warfare on a considerably more modern foundation.
