Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies VR Marks the Series’ First Step Into Virtual Reality

Phoenix Wright is officially heading into virtual reality, with Amata K.K. revealing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies VR for Meta Quest in 2027. Developed under an official licence agreement with Capcom, the project reworks the 2013 Nintendo 3DS adventure for VR, marking the first time the Ace Attorney series has jumped into virtual reality.

Rather than simply placing the original game inside a virtual screen, Amata is rebuilding its courtroom battles and investigative sequences around more physical interaction. Players can use traditional controllers, or lean further into the experience with voice commands, hand tracking and motion controls.

You Can Actually Shout “OBJECTION!” Yourself

The biggest novelty of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies VR is exactly what you would expect. Players can shout “OBJECTION!” using voice recognition, while hand-tracked gestures let them point at witnesses, present evidence and interact with the courtroom more directly.

For those who prefer something more conventional, the entire game remains playable using controllers, meaning the VR-specific features are not mandatory. That flexibility should make the adaptation more approachable while still giving longtime fans the chance to physically recreate some of Phoenix Wright’s most recognisable courtroom moments.

Investigations Are Also Being Reworked for VR

The changes in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies VR extend beyond trials. Crime scenes are being rebuilt as immersive 3D environments, allowing players to inspect locations from different angles and examine evidence using hand tracking and motion controls.

The familiar deduction-driven structure remains intact, with players searching for contradictions, piecing together evidence and working through several episodic cases.

According to Amata, the full experience will run for more than 15 hours, suggesting this is intended as a substantial adaptation of Dual Destinies rather than a shortened VR spin-off.

Phoenix Wright Returns During the Dark Age of the Law

The underlying story still follows the events of the original Dual Destinies. Eight years after stepping away from the courtroom, Phoenix Wright returns to defend the innocent, joining Apollo Justice and Athena Cykes as they confront the so-called “Dark Age of the Law”, a period where winning cases has taken priority over uncovering the truth.

The story begins inside a badly damaged courtroom, setting Phoenix and company on a series of cases designed to restore faith in the legal system.

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies VR Supports Multiple Quest Devices

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies VR is scheduled for release sometime in 2027. Amata has confirmed support for Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Meta VR Glasses.

The game will be single-player and support Japanese, English, French, German, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. A specific launch date has yet to be announced, but for Ace Attorney fans, the appeal is already fairly clear: after years of tapping a button to object, you can finally point across the courtroom and shout it yourself.
