Kena: Scars of Kosmora Moves to 2027

Players hoping to reunite with Kena this year will have to wait a little longer. Ember Lab has confirmed that Kena: Scars of Kosmora will now launch in 2027, moving the sequel out of its previously announced 2026 release window.

The studio says the additional development time will be used to further polish the game, with Scars of Kosmora being built on a considerably larger scale than Kena: Bridge of Spirits. While Ember Lab has yet to announce a more specific 2027 window, It has shared more about where Kena’s next journey will take her and why the Island of Kosmora matters.

Kena’s New Journey Becomes Much More Personal

Kena returns as a more experienced Spirit Guide, continuing to cleanse Corruption left behind by those who died without finding peace. That familiar responsibility begins to take a toll.

According to Ember Lab’s new story overview on the PlayStation Blog, Kena starts questioning whether she has become so focused on helping the dead that she has neglected both the living and herself. After years of carrying others’ pain, she has yet to properly confront her own, eventually leading her to the mysterious Island of Kosmora in search of answers.

That gives Kena: Scars of Kosmora a more introspective foundation, with the heroine’s role as a Spirit Guide becoming as much a source of personal conflict as a calling.

Kosmora Is Built Around Four Distinct Cultures

The island itself is being designed as a much broader setting than what players explored in Bridge of Spirits.

Ember Lab says Kosmora will be shaped by four distinct cultures, each with its own history, values and struggles. The aim is to make the island feel like a place with its own identity rather than simply a collection of environments connected by Kena’s journey.

That expanded scope appears to be one of the main reasons the studio wants additional time before release.

Kena Gets a New Companion

Kena will not be travelling alone either. A new dog-like creature covered in crystalline growths will accompany her throughout the adventure, serving as more than just a way to move around the island.

Ember Lab says the still-unnamed companion will participate in combat and play an important role in the story, making it one of the sequel’s more substantial new additions. Exactly how its abilities tie into Kena’s combat and exploration remains to be detailed.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora is currently scheduled for release in 2027 for PlayStation 5 and PC. A more precise launch date has not yet been announced.
