Resident Evil Requiem DLC Will Further Explore Spencer

Capcom has already confirmed that story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem is in development, but almost everything surrounding the expansion remains a mystery. We now have at least one clue about where its story is heading.

Haris Orkin, one of the writers behind Resident Evil Requiem, has revealed that the upcoming DLC will further explore Oswell E. Spencer, expanding upon the character arc established during the main game.

Speaking during an interview at Meadowlark Comic Con, Orkin explained that players already gain a better understanding of Spencer throughout Requiem, before adding that the DLC will develop that understanding even further. He then acknowledged that he “probably shouldn’t” have revealed the detail.

Resident Evil Requiem Gives Spencer a Different Side

Spencer is one of the foundational figures behind the wider Resident Evil story, serving as a co-founder of Umbrella Corporation and an architect of much of the series’ history. Resident Evil Requiem, however, explores considerably more of his motivations and gives the character additional complexity beyond his traditional role as one of the franchise’s major villains.

Spoilers for Resident Evil Requiem follow.

His story takes an unexpected direction during Requiem, raising questions about his motivations and the decisions he ultimately makes involving Grace. Orkin’s comments suggest Capcom is not finished exploring that change, although he stopped short of explaining exactly what the DLC will reveal.

Capcom has also yet to confirm whether the expansion takes place before, during or after the main campaign, or which character players will control.

Spencer Mansion Return Remains a Rumour

The comments naturally make an earlier rumour surrounding the DLC more interesting. Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem previously claimed that content involving the Spencer Mansion was removed from the main game and could instead form part of the expansion. That report remains unconfirmed, and Orkin did not mention the mansion during his interview.

For now, the only concrete story detail is that Spencer’s arc will continue in some form. There is still no confirmed title, release window or pricing for the DLC, although its development was previously confirmed by Capcom.

Whatever shape it eventually takes, Resident Evil Requiem apparently still has more to say about one of the series’ oldest villains.
