Tropico 7 Story Trailer Reveals El Presidente’s Rise to Power

Kalypso Media and Gaming Minds Studios have released a new story trailer for Tropico 7, offering the first proper look at how El Presidente goes from colonial governor to the self-appointed ruler we know and love.

The campaign begins with El Presidente still serving the British Crown, before his ambitions inevitably grow beyond simply managing someone else’s colony. Players will build and shape Tropico throughout that rise, navigating political factions, issuing edicts, and making decisions that shape the island’s development.

It follows our earlier look at Tropico 7’s expanded politics, terraforming and January release, with the new footage putting considerably more emphasis on the campaign itself. The new Tropico 7 story trailer also introduces the opposition El Presidente will face on his way to power.

Victoria Guerra Is Not Impressed With El Presidente

Chief among those standing in his way is Victoria Guerra, a revolutionary with her own ideas about what Tropico should become. Kalypso keeps her wider plans under wraps for now, but she appears positioned as the campaign’s primary counterweight to El Presidente and his increasingly enthusiastic push to rewrite history in his favour.

The campaign will span five maps, with Penultimo returning alongside Victoria as the new major rival. Beyond that, Tropico 7 includes 10 additional scenarios, more than 20 sandbox maps and a random map generator.

Players will also have considerably more control over the islands themselves. The new terraforming system allows mountains to be removed, beaches created, and even entirely new islands formed, while political factions can now be summoned directly to council meetings.

Launches January 28, 2027

Tropico 7 launches on January 28, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC. It will also be available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass from day one.

Nintendo Switch 2 players will instead get the Tropico 7 – Special Edition, which includes mouse controls using the Joy-Con 2 controllers alongside GameChat functionality.

If El Presidente’s latest campaign proves anything, it is that serving the Crown was apparently only ever the opening chapter. Ruling the island himself was always going to look better on the posters.
