Usual June Delay Pushes Launch to January 2027

Finji has delayed Usual June from October 28 to January 20, 2027, giving its supernatural action-adventure almost three additional months of development time before launch.

The studio says the delay is intended to improve the final launch builds and give the team’s collaborators’ work the best possible showing. The game was previously scheduled to arrive on October 28 through Steam.

Finji co-founders Adam and Bekah Saltsman even acknowledged the rather large game looming over the end of 2026, joking that they “could probably get away with blaming this change on GTA VI”, before clarifying that the actual reason is simply wanting more time to finish the game properly.

With GTA VI launching on November 19, they probably weren’t the first developer to think carefully about that release window.

New Usual June Gameplay Arrives With the Delay

The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer shown during The Cozy After Dark, giving another look at June’s journey through the strange town of Fen Harbor. Usual June mixes third-person combat with exploration and a supernatural mystery. Players will investigate locations including secret laboratories, buried tunnels, haunted observatories, and abandoned train stations, as well as a second, more otherworldly realm.

Combat centres on fast movement and abilities that expand as June gains experience, though Finji hints at consequences tied to some of the powers players eventually unlock. The game also puts considerable emphasis on its characters and mystery-solving.

June can communicate with the dead and use their photographic memories to piece together what happened around Fen Harbor, while living characters can interact with physical objects that ghosts cannot. More than 25 characters appear throughout the story, with both the living and dead helping uncover what is happening before the city’s ghosts disappear altogether.

Usual June Demo Remains Available

The delay does not leave players without anything to try in the meantime. A free demo remains available through the game’s Steam page, offering an early look at its combat, characters and supernatural setting.

Usual June Combat

Finji is developing Usual June internally under creative director Adam Saltsman, with writing contributions from David Pinckney and BAFTA-winning writer Cara Ellison, and audio direction from Adam Hay.

The game will now launch exclusively for PC via Steam on January 20, 2027.
