DLSS 5 Comes to Hogwarts Legacy With a Much Faster Model

NVIDIA is expanding DLSS 5 beyond its initial implementation in NBA 2K27, with Hogwarts Legacy and Where Winds Meet next in line for its 3D-Guided Neural Rendering technology. More importantly, the underlying model is getting considerably leaner.

According to NVIDIA’s latest DLSS 5 update, a combination of pipeline optimisation and neural model refinements has made 3D-Guided Neural Rendering twice as fast as its September implementation. The model itself is now 24% smaller at roughly 118 million parameters, while 4K VRAM usage has been reduced by 20%.

The result, NVIDIA says, is half the GPU overhead while maintaining comparable visual quality, with the updated model capable of boosting frame rates in NBA 2K27 by up to 1.4x.

Hogwarts Legacy Gets DLSS 5 on November 5

Hogwarts Legacy will become the next major implementation on November 5, adding DLSS Neural Rendering alongside updated versions of its existing DLSS technologies. Rather than simply reconstructing frames at higher resolutions, DLSS 5 uses the game’s existing geometry, textures and lighting as a foundation before applying neural rendering to enhance material properties and lighting detail.

Avalanche Software is using the SDK’s controls to determine where those changes are applied while retaining the game’s existing visual direction. The update will be available on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, NVIDIA RTX Spark systems and GeForce NOW.

Where Winds Meet Follows in Late November

Everstone Studio’s Where Winds Meet will follow in late November. NVIDIA says there was significant community demand for official DLSS 5 support after unofficial experimentation with the technology, with the studio itself also impressed by the visual changes. The game already supports DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Super Resolution.

A new demonstration shows how the neural rendering affects its environments and characters, particularly lighting and material response. The rapid optimisation also adds useful context to NVIDIA’s previously announced plans to eventually bring DLSS 5 support to GeForce RTX 40 Series cards. NVIDIA has said that expansion will come after it finishes tuning the technology for RTX 50 Series hardware.

That should not be confused with NVIDIA’s newly released Frame Generation Performance Mode, which already supports RTX 40 and RTX 50 Series GPUs but is a separate DLSS feature. DLSS 5 is also heading to RTX Remix on October 23, opening the updated neural model to modders working on remasters of older PC games.

What began as an extremely demanding technology is therefore becoming considerably easier to run only a month after its official debut, while its game support is starting to move beyond NBA 2K27.
