Layoffs at Splash Damage as Transformers: Reactivate Gets Cancelled

Transformers Reactivate Splash Damage

In the early 2010s, we were treated to some fantastic action games based on theTransformers IP, with several developed by High Moon Studios. Through games like War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron, the studio showcased the enjoyable potential of embodying robots with transforming abilities. Unfortunately, that momentum has not always been kept up, and now, one of the most anticipated projects, Transformers: Reactivate, has been cancelled.

Alongside the unfortunate news of studio layoffs, developer Splash Damage officially announced the cancellation of theTransformers: Reactivate game via a post on Twitter/X.

Development resources for the game will be redirected to other projects. Splash Damage also expressed gratitude to Hasbro, the IP owner, for their support throughout the development. While there can be many reasons for a project cancellation, there has been no info shared at this point as to why Transformers: Reactivate has been canned.

This game was first introduced at The Game Awards back in 2022. It was positioned as an online action game for 1-4 players, where you would play as humans fighting against a Decepticon invasion. Its first cinematic teaser also featured Autobots like the iconic Bumblebee.

Transformers: Reactivate also announced closed beta phases several times in the past, once in 2023 and again in 2024, but they never materialised. Looking back, the failure to launch was certainly a precursor to what had eventually come to pass. That’s disappointing for fans of the IP looking forward to what could have been another fun experience, and even more so for the affected developers.
