One of the genres that could very well make a comeback for modern gaming is that of mech strategy experiences. Despite releasing remastered versions of its classics, Square Enix still doesn’t seem confident enough to put Front Mission front and centre. Fortunately, Indonesian developer and publisher, Toge Productions, is stepping into the breach with Kriegsfront Tactics.
Set in an alternate timeline of the 1970s in Southeast Asia where conflict is rife, you’ll play as a commander of a mecha squad sent behind enemy lines. That requires smart thinking in all areas, as players must manage the squad, resources, and mechs. You can also look into tweaking your favourite mechs for both function and visuals, ensuring that the enemies know exactly who is giving them a hard time.
Initially slated just for a PC release, Kriegsfront Tactics will also be making its way to consoles as revealed by a new teaser trailer. The game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch, with Toge working with Chorus Worldwide as the game’s publisher. It remains to be seen if the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 will be a viable platform or if the game will work via backwards compatibility.
Now that we have all the possible platforms on which we can play Kreigsfront Tactics, all that’s left is for Toge Productions to put a concrete release date so we can all look forward to it. Unfortunately, that is still up in the air as an official date has not been shared.
However, you can satiate your thirst for mech combat with the prologue demo for the game, which is available now on Steam. It will be a small taste of the combat and exploration that await, as well as an introduction to the opening story of the game.
