Metaphor Refantazio Manga Adaptation First Chapter Now Available

When you have achieved tremendous success, the way forward is to expand on the solid foundations, and that is what SEGA and ATLUS have done with their latest JRPG success, Metaphor: ReFantazio. While it still has some ways to go to catch the likes of Shin Megami Tensei and Persona, it does offer something unique in its story, with the focus on political, religious, and other pressing human issues. Now, there’s a brand new way to enjoy the riveting tale.

After plenty of teasing since the game first launched back in October 2024, the manga adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is now finally here. With illustrations handled by Yoichi Amano (Akaboshi: Ibun Suikoden, Ana no Mujina) and published by Shueisha, the first chapter of the manga, is now available online for free and in English.

For those who have not experienced the game, the manga remains largely faithful to its source material, which instantly means it is intriguing and worth a read from the first page. However, specific tweaks and changes have been made to help make the storytelling more coherent with the absence of player agency and gameplay.

Of course, the central protagonist remains Will, who acts as the player’s avatar and is central to all that is happening in the world of Metaphor: ReFantazio.

If that all sounds good to you and you are itching to get started, the first chapter is now free via the Shueisha MangaPlus service. More importantly, the publisher is committed to making English versions of the manga available simultaneously with other regional releases.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
