It’s finally here. For months, Marvel fans have been eagerly awaiting their first glimpse of the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and following a short teaser, the first full trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps has dropped, and there’s plenty to look forward to.
With Marvel’s First Family set to play an integral role in the MCU moving forward, this first foray into the past will set the tone for the future to come. Considering that Galactus will be the obstacle standing in their way, the stakes have never been higher.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Fantastic Four: First Steps:
Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”
At the head of the table is Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), joined by partner Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), her brother Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), and trusty Ben Grimm AKA the Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), the movie will premiere this coming July 24.
With the movie set in the 1960s, it remains to be seen just how the heroic family will make their way into the events of the wider MCU. Kevin Feige has already confirmed that they will be part of future Avenger films, and of course, the history with Doctor Doom, played by a returning Robert Downey Jr, will make for fantastic storytelling material.
Hopefully, the sixth phase of the MCU will start things off with a bang with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and we will find out just how in a few months’ time.
