EA Reveals Apex Legends 2 Will Only Be Possible After New Battlefield Launch

Apex Legends 2.0 is Happening, Ea Said.

The sustained popularity of Apex Legends as a battle royale game with a live-service concept is truly impressive. One of the most profitable titles for EA, this Respawn Entertainment-developed game also boasts a strong community that is invested in its future. That all makes for the perfect storm, as EA reveals that it still has big plans for the shooter.

This was conveyed by EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, in the company’s latest earnings call.

Apex is probably one of the great new launches in our industry over the last decade and has been loved by that core cohort,” Wilson said. “We’ve had over 200 million people play the game. However, the trajectory of the business of that franchise has not been headed in the direction that we have wanted for some time.”

“We have been trying, tuning and testing many things in the context of the ongoing support of the community. As we think about Apex today, I really think about the development happening across three core vectors”

The first is how EA and Respawn will continue to support Apex Legends‘ active community. This support includes improvements to the anti-cheat system, quality-of-life enhancements, and various other updates that ensure an enjoyable Apex Legends experience. Naturally, this also involves the addition of new content.

Secondly, Wilson emphasised that EA believes there will come a time when the game will require a truly significant update to expand the existing experience. He referred to this as Apex Legends 2.0, confirming that it will not be the final iteration of the game. While he did not provide a release window, he did confirm that Apex Legends 2.0 will only arrive after the next Battlefield game launches, meaning it won’t happen until after April 2026.

The third aspect is a long-term plan in which EA aims to continue expanding the Apex Legends franchise while supporting its core community, consisting of competitive players, as well as welcoming new players into the ecosystem.

Unfortunately, Wilson did not provide any concrete timeline regarding when we might actually see EA’s vision for this next iteration of Apex Legends, but at least there is a verbal commitment. Fans will be eager to see just what transpires, as will EA and Respawn.
