Hasbro Taps Space Marines 2 Studio for Tentpole Ip Game

One of the most enjoyable third-person shooting experiences in 2024 was delivered by Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, with Saber Interactive producing an intense, stylish campaign and robust multiplayer content, a package that is a great entry point for newcomers. That quality of work received plenty of plaudits, and deservingly so, and it is the basis of a new partnership with entertainment company Hasbro.

This comes via the latest financial report from Hasbro, with CEO Chris Cocks sharing the exciting news about one of its “tentpole IPs.”

“We have many new digital collaborations in the works, but I’m especially excited to announce this one today, being a personal fan of many of this team’s games,” Cocks said. “Hasbro and Saber Interactive will be collaborating on an all-new video game partnership developed by the team behind 2024’s megahit, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Combining high-octane single-player action and amazing multiplayer with Saber’s Swarm tech, this new AAA title, based on one of our tentpole IPs, is sure to be a hit.”

The Swarm tech bit is definitely interesting , and how it will be applied to any of the IPs under Hasbro’s umbrella warrants attention. As part of the same call, Cocks also confirmed that it will be the same team behind Space Marine 2 that will be handling this collaborative project.

The big question is which tentpole Hasbro IP will be getting this treatment. There will be a new Dungeons & Dragons game, the sci-fi title Exodus, another G.I. Joe game, and an untitled project from Skeleton Key. This doesn’t mean that the Saber Interactive collaboration won’t involve the same IPs, but Hasbro will be hoping to build on the success of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Then there is the elephant in the room with Transformers, a franchise that could do with a decent video game outing. The recent cancellation of Transformers: Reactivate will not have gone down well with fans, with the future murky at best.
