Konami Goes All in on Suikoden with Anime, Mobile Game Ahead of Remaster

With several classic IPs under its umbrella, it is no wonder that fans have been crying out for Konami to do something with them. For roleplaying game fans, at least that situation is set to change with the arrival of Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune & Dunan Unification Wars on March 6, but that’s not all. The Japanese company has more up its sleeve for the IP, with a new animated show and mobile game coming as well.

This was all revealed at Suikoden Live, an hour-long show that featured orchestral performances of the iconic music, interviews with key members of the development team, and a look behind the scenes with composers and artists brought onboard to expand the franchise in the years to come globally.

Suikoden: The Anime

A beloved entry, Suikoden II will be headed to the world of animation, with a new televised series coming from Konami Animation and NBC Universal Entertainment Japan. The show will explore the deep lore of the game, with the 108 Stars of Destiny likely to play an important role.

“I am very honored to be a part of this huge project, Suikoden: The Anime,” said Ryo Hino of NBC. “It is not only for original fans like me. These relationships between characters, and this dramatic story… I’m looking forward to sharing the story with even more people. There will be more info regarding the anime from here on out, And we will share each info with care, so please look forward to it. We will appreciate your support!”

Konami has provided a brief teaser, offering fans a first look at the anime’s logo and a few visual snippets. Among these was a shot of the iconic cliff scene, a pivotal moment that marks the beginning of the epic journey of Riou and Jowy. Unfortunately, Konami has yet to reveal additional details, such as the number of episodes or the expected release date of the anime.

Suikoden Star Leap

A new roleplaying adventure set in the same world will also be arriving soon on mobile devices. Suikoden Star Leap takes place a few years before the events of Suikoden I, but a couple years after Suikoden V.

Players can explore vibrant, bustling towns and meet new and familiar characters along their quests. The game’s art style takes inspiration from 2D pixel character designs with a mix of 3D backgrounds. Details of the release date for Suikoden Star Leap and more information will be shared in a future announcement.
