The power of storytelling and well-crafted characters has cemented The Last of Us as one of Sony’s most successful first-party franchises. Beyond its two critically acclaimed video game entries, HBO’s television adaptation has expanded the narrative with additional emotional depth and detail. To celebrate this gripping series — one that explores the darker sides of human nature amid an apocalypse — Sony has introduced an enticing new product: the DualSense wireless controller – The Last of Us Limited Edition.
Featuring a striking black-and-white color scheme, this special edition DualSense controller showcases three logos representing the franchise. At its center is the Firefly emblem, a crucial symbol in the first game’s storyline. Positioned on opposite sides are two additional logos: the Moth, representing Ellie, and the Wolf, symbolizing Abby, whose rivalry drives the events of The Last of Us Part II.
“We were excited by the chance to memorialize The Last of Us franchise in a controller that fans and our own team would love. We wanted to ensure that both installments of The Last of Us are represented, via trophy icons printed in black gloss across the controller body. Among the trophies, three particular images will immediately stand out for TLOU fans: The firefly, moth, and wolf,” explained head of studio and creative Neil Druckmann, and graphic designer Megan Mehran.
“Players will recognize the Fireflies’ iconic spray-painted logo that originated in Part I, while the moth and wolf represent the intertwining lives and duality between Ellie and Abby in Part II.”
Sony has also strategically chosen a release date that aligns perfectly with major franchise milestones. Pre-orders for the controller began on March 14, while its official launch is set for April 10. This timing places it between two key events: the PC release of The Last of Us Part II on April 3, and the premiere of HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 on April 13.
The DualSense wireless controller – The Last of Us Limited Edition will be priced at US$84.99 for the regions of the U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. However, there is currently no confirmation of its official availability in Southeast Asia.
The controller’s arrival will be something to look forward to, especially as there might not be a further entry in the franchise for fans. Druckmann expressed uncertainty about the possibility of The Last of Us Part III in a recent interview with Variety, which will disappoint many, but the developers are not twiddling their thumbs. Naughty Dog is currently focused on its next major project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
