With billions of users worldwide, the mobile gaming market remains an irresistible opportunity for developers and publishers alike. It’s no surprise, then, that many well-known studios are actively adapting their flagship titles for the mobile platform. An endeavour that often involves reworking control schemes and tweaking game mechanics, the latest to make this leap is Subnautica, the acclaimed underwater survival game.
In a surprise announcement, developer and publisher Unknown Worlds confirmed that Subnautica will officially be coming to mobile devices. Known for its vast and immersive underwater environments set on an alien planet, Subnautica has built a strong fanbase on PC and consoles. Now, it’s poised to reach an even broader audience through mobile.
The announcement was accompanied by a debut trailer showcasing familiar gameplay elements—exploration, crafting, and survival, now tailored for mobile devices. While the visuals in the trailer appear slightly downgraded compared to its PC and console counterparts, the core gameplay experience remains intact.
Subnautica is slated for release on both Android and iOS platforms with an official launch date of July 8. The mobile version will be a paid title and not a free-to-play release, underscoring its premium nature.
Interestingly, the mobile port is not being handled directly by Unknown Worlds. Instead, the task has been entrusted to Playdigious, a studio known for its high-quality mobile adaptations. The game is confirmed to run smoothly on devices such as the iPhone 15, including the Pro Max variant. Additionally, players will benefit from cloud save support, allowing them to continue their progress seamlessly across Android and iOS devices.
Pre-orders and pre-registrations are already open at the time of this announcement, giving eager fans a chance to prepare for this new mobile experience. With its deep-sea exploration, atmospheric tension, and survival-driven gameplay, Subnautica is set to make a splash in the mobile gaming scene this July.
Subnautica arrives on mobile this July 8. The game is also available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
