Having generated massive hype with its marketing, Mundfish‘s Atomic Heart launched to a mixed reception in 2023. While the game may not have fully delivered a high-calibre action RPG experience, it was praised for its visual fidelity, unique artistic direction, and imaginative weapon and character designs. These strengths are now being distilled into the newly announced sequel, Atomic Heart 2.
During the Summer Game Fest, Mundfish officially confirmed the development of their follow-up to the action RPG adventure game. The studio promises a larger, more ambitious project that aims to build on the foundation laid by the original.
Players will once again find themselves navigating through a vastly expanded retrofuturistic world. This time, the conflict unfolds on a global scale, introducing a broader array of threats and necessitating alliances with a diverse cast of new characters. The shift to a larger, more interconnected world hints at a more dynamic narrative and potentially deeper gameplay systems.
Mundfish has also revealed several key improvements and enhancements set to arrive with the sequel. RPG elements will be further developed, offering players more progression paths and customisation options. Additionally, the world will feature a greater variety of activities to enrich the exploration and gameplay experience.
Combat mechanics are also receiving an overhaul. Players will now be able to engage enemies using both hands simultaneously, opening up new combat strategies. The Glove abilities will return but can now be combined more fluidly with a variety of melee and ranged weapons, encouraging more creative playstyles.

“It’s been hard sitting on this announcement for so long, but today, at Summer Game Fest, we’re incredibly happy to finally and officially announce that Atomic Heart 2 is coming, and it’s bigger and bolder than the original.”
The game is scheduled for release in 2026 for both consoles and PC. However, a specific release date has not yet been announced. Fans of the original and newcomers alike can look forward to a deeper dive into this bizarre and visually striking alternate reality in the years to come.
