Chinese Gacha Title Wang Yue Channels GTA & Pokémon in Gameplay Showcase

the Latest Chinese Gacha Game—wang Yue—blends Anime, Wuthering Waves, Pokémon, and Zelda: Totk into a Single Experience.

The growing prowess of Chinese developers has given the gaming industry something refreshing to keep an eye on, and it’s not just the AAA titles that are worth a gander. The gacha genre has been a fertile hunting ground for companies like miHoYo, and now, there is a new contender called Wang Yue that is generating some waves.

Developed by Guangzhou Shiyue Network Technology, the game’s name translates to moon gazing, and it will be an action RPG with a three-character system reminiscent of Wuthering Waves by Kuro Games, Wang Yue, which has now entered its Closed Beta phase in China, involves certain recognisable mechanics from other hit games into its gameplay.

Players will visit an open world urban setting like in Grand Theft Auto, use different vehicles to explore and travel, while checking out the wares of an assortment of shops. The first gameplay showcase also highlights a concept similar to Pokémon and Palworld. In addition to your party members, Wang Yue includes cute monsters that can assist in battle by providing buffs or dealing damage.

The game also seems to take another page from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Players can attach and combine different materials into a single object to create specific functions. Want to make a flying vehicle? Why not combine a fan and a toilet? It might not be a complete replication, but the concept is definitely familiar.

Of course, the hope is that there are some original ideas that would help the game stand out, but building on a solid foundation of mechanics that other games have popularised isn’t a bad thing. It just remains to be seen if players are on board with something that has already been done before, or if the developers will add their own twists.

For now, Wang Yue is only available in China for mobile and PC. There’s no information yet on whether it will be released globally.
