It is now official. After a long wait since the initial tease, LEGO and Nintendo have finally unveiled what video game collectors can add to their brick collection. The new LEGO 72046 Nintendo Game Boy is now available for pre-order and will begin shipping from October 1.

Made up of 421 pieces, putting it all together will result in a faithful near 1:1 replica of the handheld that first took the world by storm in 1989. As a display piece, it measures approximately 14cm in width and 9cm in height, just small enough to be part of any setup but still noticeable enough to spark conversations.

And it’s all about the details when it comes to LEGO, and this set doesn’t disappoint. From the D-pad, Start and Select buttons, and A and B buttons, everything looks authentic and close to the real deal. Along with the portable console, you are also getting two brick-built Game Pads for The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land. Slot those in, and you can further immerse yourself in nostalgia with the lenticular screens of either a game in action or the Nintendo start screen.

Why You Need the LEGO 72046 Nintendo Game Boy Set

Although it may carry an age rating of 18+, which positions the set as one for adults, it is clear that this build will appeal to both young and old. This will be a treat for adult fans, and also a great way to introduce the new generation to the OG of handheld gaming.

Unlike some other sets that overlap with the video gaming world, the LEGO 72046 Nintendo Game Boy Set is sadly not playable. It does, however, look great propped up on the included stand as an awesome display piece.

If you weren’t already aware, there are also the LEGO 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System set as well as the LEGO 71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set to dive fully into the vintage period of gaming.
