Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Story Trailer Invites Tarnished to Resist Messmer's Tyranny

The majesty of FromSoftware is not just derived from the challenging gameplay that is present in all its games, but also the way the team is able to weave storytelling and worldbuilding together in ways that other games just struggle to match. With Elden Ring already brimming with lore, players will soon be able to dive even deeper with the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

In a new story trailer, we get a closer look at Realm of Shadow, where Messmer the Impaler is doing his best to bathe everything in flames. Standing in his way is Miquella, the twin brother of Malenia, the notoriously difficult boss in the base game. Alas, a noble sacrifice is not enough to stop the purge without grace, and it is now up to followers of Miquella and the Tarnished to take down the new villain.

This set things up nicely in Shadow of the Erdtree for players to follow in the footsteps of Miquella, and attempting to find a better way of stopping Messmer and saving the world yet again. With a brand new area to explore and even more intimidating enemies to fight, this is giving more Elden Ring goodness which fans are sure to appreciate.

Considering that this is the first and only DLC we will ever get for the game, FromSoftware is sure to go all out in order to impress players yet again. Even veteran players will need to up their game too, as the DLC features a different progression system that will level the playing field when it comes to combat. While you may have a high-level character fit for The Lands Between, the Realm of Shadow is a whole other matter.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree launches this June 21 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
