Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has been credited with playing a significant role in the revival of Cyberpunk 2077′s fortunes, and rightly so. While consistent updates and patches refined CD Projekt Red’s ambitious RPG, it was the success and popularity of the anime series that reignited interest in the dystopian world of Night City. Even those unfamiliar with the game found themselves drawn to its gritty charm and tragic beauty. And good news, the acclaimed anime is officially set to return for a second season in the form of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.
Following the success of its debut season, which captivated audiences worldwide, including many non-gamers, Netflix has unveiled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. This new season will feature some significant changes to its creative team. Notably, Kai Ikarashi will take on the role of director. Ikarashi previously contributed to the first season in multiple roles, including storyboard artist, animation director, animator, and prop designer.
Joining the creative team is Ichigo Kanno (Delicious in Dungeon) as the lead character designer, while Masahiko Otsuka returns as screenwriter. Studio Trigger, the powerhouse behind the first season’s striking visuals and kinetic action, will once again handle animation production for the sequel.
What to Expect in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2
Although a release date has not yet been announced, Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for the show. The teaser makes one thing explicitly clear: the story of David and the original cast has come to a definitive end.
Instead, Season 2 will introduce an entirely new narrative set within the same universe of Night City, featuring a fresh, younger protagonist. While details remain scarce, the shift promises a different perspective within the same brutal and vibrant cyberpunk setting.
CD Projekt Red, currently deep into development of the next mainline Cyberpunk game (for now, Cyberpunk 2), will continue its close collaboration with the anime’s production. However, it remains unclear whether there will be any direct narrative ties between the two seasons.

With Studio Trigger back at the helm and a bold new direction in the works, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is shaping up to be another thrilling ride through the neon-lit chaos of Night City.
