Death Stranding Expands Horizons with Anime Adaptation

Hideo Kojima’s deep-rooted obsession with the film industry is no secret. Ever since his early days at Konami with iconic titles such as Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders, Kojima has consistently delivered experiences that feel heavily cinematic. While his dream of becoming a film director has yet to be fully realised, Kojima continues to push the boundaries of interactive storytelling, and now, he’s bringing his vision to a new medium with Death Stranding.

In a recent interview with Vogue Japan, Kojima revealed that Death Stranding will also be adapted into an anime. Unfortunately, details remain scarce. Kojima did not confirm whether the anime will take the form of a feature-length film or a serialised show. Likewise, he has not disclosed which anime studio will be involved in bringing the project to life. This lack of concrete information has only fueled further curiosity and speculation among fans.

Despite the mystery surrounding the anime adaptation, Kojima has made one thing clear—his ambitions are high. His clear love for the film industry will likely play a part in how the anime adaptation turns out.

As previously announced, Death Stranding is already set to receive a live-action film adaptation, with A24 overseeing production. The project has garnered significant attention, especially with Michael Sarnoski, the mind behind A Quiet Place: Day One, confirmed as the director. However, it turns out that film isn’t the only adaptation on the horizon for this enigmatic title.

For the live-action film, he envisions a narrative that could only be realised through the cinematic format. More than just telling a compelling story, Kojima hopes the film will earn critical acclaim and potentially secure a spot at prestigious events, such as the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival.

At the time of writing, no official release date has been announced for either the anime or the live-action film, but both projects are highly anticipated by fans and industry observers alike.
