First Teaser for Death Stranding Mosquito Anime Unveiled by Kojima Productions

Kojima Productions Announces Death Stranding Anime Project “Mosquito”

Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions have big plans when it comes to extending the reach of Death Stranding beyond video games. We already know that there will be both a film and anime adaptation, and it is the latter that is receiving more details. As part of the studio’s 10th anniversary celebrations, we were given a glimpse of Death Stranding Mosquito.

First Teaser for Death Stranding Mosquito Unveiled

The reveal came with a short two-minute teaser, which showcased the project’s distinctive 3D-animated style.

While the trailer avoided detailed plot revelations, it confirmed that the anime will introduce a brand-new protagonist, visually reminiscent of Sam Porter Bridges but narratively distinct. Kojima also clarified that the subtitle Mosquito is currently a working title and may change before release.

An Original Storyline

Unlike the mainline games, which centre on Sam and his role as a courier in a fractured world, Death Stranding Mosquito will tell a completely new story featuring original characters. This shift suggests an opportunity to explore the more expansive Death Stranding universe from a fresh perspective, free from the constraints of the existing game narratives.

The Creative Team

Production will be handled by ABC Animation Studio, with Kojima himself attached as producer. The creative team includes:

  • Director: Hiroshi Miyamoto
  • Writer: Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners, Raised by Wolves)

The collaboration reflects Kojima’s longstanding interest in merging cinematic and gaming cultures, with Guzikowski’s pedigree in thought-provoking sci-fi aligning neatly with Death Stranding’s themes of isolation and human connection.

Expanding the Death Stranding Universe

Death Stranding Mosquito joins the A24 live-action film adaptation, confirming that Kojima Productions sees Death Stranding as more than a one-off franchise. By pushing into animation, Kojima is continuing to blur the lines between video games and traditional storytelling mediums.

For now, no release date has been set, but fans can expect more updates as production continues.
